jedigrammarians: (Aphra: love the hair!)

Aphra had once again told her class to meet her in the park, though there was a lot less junk around, and several taped off areas instead.

"Hope you remembered to bring your laser swords today," she told them cheerfully. "Because if you didn't you're going to meditate over there while the rest of us have fun hitting each other with laser swords.

"Now, the Jedi developed a number of lightsaber forms, which either played to a given Jedi's strengths or were effective against different opponents, but mastery of them required years of training and that whole Force sensitivity thing so it's a real pity we don't have any Jedi Masters here today to demonstrate," Aphra continued, deliberately ignoring Anakin. "But the earliest form, Shii-Cho, had a lot in common with regular old swords so we can at least try out the basics."

"So find a partner and try not to cut anyone's arm off!"

"Right, so." Duke was actually here for his class this week. Sorry, Lord High Master of All Fishes, your reign of terror has ended. "I was thinking of doing some surfing this week, but there are . . . no waves." He looked down at the water gently lapping at the shoreline. "Literally none. I blame our new candy colored neighbors. And that damned music —"

He shook his head.

"Anyway. There's no waves, but there's apparently a lot going on underneath the water right now, so I thought maybe we could do a class on one of my favorite ways to spend time in the water: free diving.

"Now, technically the term 'free diving' refers to any sort of underwater activity that doesn't use supplemental oxygen. So we're talking traditional fishing methods, snorkeling, underwater basket-weaving. . . . All of that counts as free diving. I'm going to teach you how I do it, though, which involves no extra equipment in the water but you, your own ability to hold your breath — and some kind of water-appropriate clothing, since this is a class and all. And we're all super excited to have our own clothing back."

Duke himself was wearing a simple short-sleeved wetsuit today. That he had not picked off a tree, thank you very much.

"Now, like most things in the world, free diving takes practice. Most — air breathing, land-based — people are not going to be able to immediately dive in and be able to hold their breaths for ages. And they probably shouldn't try. No one is allowed to pass out because they thought they could hold it just a liiiiiittle bit longer, today. But there are some techniques I can show you right now to increase the amount of time you can stay under the water."

Duke walked them through the process of a breathe up and recovery breathing for before and after their dives.

"Alright. There are some floats set up out there in case you get tired and need a break, and I'll be swimming around, keeping an eye on everyone to make sure you don't get into trouble. Now get out there, have some fun, and . . . see what you can find!"

Summer had sent out the word to have the class actually meet in the park this week, because she had an idea for a theme that fit very nicely (she thought) with all the new visitors on the island, and she wanted to take advantage of it.

"This week," she grinned at the class once it seemed everyone who was coming was there and ready to cook, "I figured we'd take advantage of having nice weather and some visitors to the island to have a nice grill and potluck theme for the class today. That means I'm not only going to be tasting your dishes and judging them, but I'm going to be inviting literally anyone passing by to come join us and have a taste for themselves, too! Because summer is all about cookouts and potlucks anyway, right? So, of course, you have your basket of three ingredients which we will reveal shortly, but there's two added elements this week: you must make use of the grills here in the park in some fashion and you have to make enough to share with anyone brave enough to come join us. If there's any questions, ask them now or forever hold your peace...or is it piece? I've never really been sure. Anyway, if there aren't questions we'll just get right to it, have you open your boxes, and let you get to work!"

[[ ocd is up, and since it's in the park, I wholeheartedly encourage anyone who might be around to come by and try some free food or something, idk, i just thought of this this morning! ]]

Nothing was on fire this time around, but there was a strange assortment of fruit waiting for both the class and teachers upon arrival. The fruit somehow managed to look a little too perfect somehow.

"Oh gods, it's still happening," Jaskier said, finding a recipe waiting for them under a little gingham napkin.

Yennefer was poking at the fruit warily. It seemed suspicious somehow. "I don't trust it," she muttered. "I don't trust any of this."

"Yes, yes. We know," Jaskier sighed, reading the recipe. It was better than looking at the suspicious, magical fruit. "Oh, it's pie! That doesn't sound too difficult."

It was, in fact, too difficult for them.

Yennefer peered over his shoulder to look at the recipe, uncaring that she was all up in Jaskier's personal space. "Oh, look! It says you can put vodka in the crust. I never knew there was vodka in pie." This was very exciting news that in no way was going to lead to things ending in tears.

Jaskier was frozen like maybe if he didn't move, she wouldn't see him. Like that movie that he did not know about. "Well. As long as there's vodka, I think this should go swimmingly. Class, if you would like to follow along?"

Your teachers were going to get drunk and giggle over the peaches looking like butts, but it would be educational.

The peaches did really look like butts, didn't they? "Yes, so. Choose your fruit and let's get started."
