So, the good news? Today, the Danger Shop seemed to be more or less cooperating with Fjord.

The bad news? Students were stepping into it, and directly into a jail cell. The bars looked sturdy, there was a window to the outside world a little too high up the wall to be convenient, and your jailer, an aging human gentleman who was seated across the room with a hawkish look in his eye and a crossbow in his hands, didn't look terribly thrilled to be there with them.

Fjord was at least kind enough to be on the inside of the bars with the students for this lecture. Didn't want to trip too many concerns right off the bat, did he?

"Congratulations," he informed the group once they all settled in. "You seem to have been arrested." He looked them all over and smirked faintly. "Today, you'll be meeting your companions for the first time. Whatever landed you here, from being caught for an actual crime to simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time is going to be up to you, but I'd love for you to share what that reason was with me, if not with the class, so that I know what I'm working with going forward. What I'd like from today is twofold, but the direction this takes is, of course, going to be up to you. First, you'll have to get to know one another, at least enough to figure out how to put your classmates' talents and your own to use in this situation. Second, you'll have to get the hell out of here. Whether y'all stage a jailbreak or try to find a more legitimate means of egress is going to be left up to you. You've got the means of getting out of here one way or another between you."

He spread his hands, and then grinned and stepped backwards through the bars as if they were simply mist. This wasn't a Fjord trick so much as a good roll to see if the Danger Shop was cooperating this morning quirk of the program to allow him to follow the group wherever today took them, but damn if it wasn't fun to do.

"So... Jatila, Yelden, Seros, Kriv, Edor, and..." He waved vaguely at Trevor. "Chevy." This was what happened when you didn't give him a name, Trevor. "What do you do?"

"Right." Miguel clapped his hands together. "So, we've done the introductions, now we get to the fun stuff. Here's today's problem to solve with science." He keyed in some things in the Danger Shop controls, and a series of walls popped up, one for each student. They were solid and slightly shiny, and went from floor to ceiling. Between them were intersecting walls so they couldn't look around.

"Get past a wall. And before you all go in there with explosives or punching or whatever, you don't know what's on the other side, you don't know how thick it is, you don't know what it's made of or how it'll react to what you do. You might want to use science to figure out some of that first. Use the room to fabricate any sensors or equipment you might want, but you can't use it to straight-out tell you the answers. Go."

Luckily for the class, Aphra seemed less hungover today.

Unluckily for the class, Aphra seemed less hungover today.

"So after careful consideration, I've decided to ease you guys into things," she said. "By leading a discussion on when is it considered not just not not wrong to lie, but good, or even desirable. The one that crops up the most is usually called tact." Something Aphra was mostly familiar with in its absence.

"See tact is those little white lies that keep the gears of society greased, help stop us all punching the guy next to us in the face because he said you looked funny, or that that last time you heard such self-serving, insane troll logic was when you were dumb enough to watch senate question time. When there was still a senate at least."

"So a little exercise today. We're going to pretend you're at a party, and you have to tell a guest that his toupee looks like something died on his head. Only if you actually say that, he's probably going to try to murder you. So break it to him gentle. Work in pairs if you want."
