Pinkie had on a jaunty pair of sunglasses as she waited for the students this week. "Hiyahiya!" she greeted. "Hope you're all set for some fun in the sun, because where we're going today, summer is in full bloom!"

"Technically," said Eliot, glaring daggers at the pony. He was wearing full cold weather gear, including hat, gloves, scarf, and snow boots. "Very, very technically."

"In fact," Pinkie continued blithely, "it's so summery there, the sun's not going to set until after midnight!"

Eliot smirked tiredly. "Yeah," he said. "We're going to Antarctica."

"Hope Bay, Antarctica!" Pinkie cheered. "Also known as 'Iceberg Alley!' Doesn't that sound so neat?"

"Fortunately the forecast down there today's hoverin' around the freezing point," Eliot said. "Because it's summer. And one of the furthest points on the continent from the pole. You're welcome."

Pinkie sighed. "I wanted to see the pole."

"There -- it ain't an actual pole in the ground. It's just a geographic point."

"Then why's it called a pole?"

Cosette wasn't going to ask questions about the toy cars scattered around the floor of the library today.

Put them up on the tables so they wouldn't be underfoot and therefore a safety hazard (and a liability), but not ask why they were there. Someone had returned a good number of books on automotive history, so she was willing to assume the cars were trying to make it a theme.

Today brought the students to Istanbul. Or Constantinople. Not that either teacher could explain that joke. "Welcome to Turkey, which is a country and a bird, but the bird isn't found here, as far as I know." He looked confused about it.

"Presumably, the bird is called something different in this country," Obi-Wan said, a wry smile on his face. "Today, you will encounter some of the nation's most famous attributes: sails, spas, and the local cuisine."

If he was sad it didn't alliterate fully, you could not tell by his expression.

"All by foot," Anakin added because he was mean.

"There will be some walking involved," Obi-Wan allowed. "But that's good for the spirit."

"And the calves," Anakin added, smirking slightly.

Obi-Wan coughed. It was by no means a display of amusement. "I wish you great success," he said, "and may the Force be with you."

Class was back in the Danger Shop-as-scriptorium again, a huge space on one end with a small table, and all the desks pointed at it.

"Now that we've had some grounding in feeling your way around magical objects," Bob began, "We're going to go a bit further. Most magic, after all, doesn't simply sit there - it does something."

He nodded to Mabel. "Put the box here, please." Read more... )
