This week, the Danger Shop was set up to look like a mid-sized Japanese city. Judging by the fashions of the simulated people passing by on the streets, it seemed to be set sometime in the 70s.

Prof Tomoe waited in front of an open park for everyone to arrive. The students might have noticed that their teacher was somewhat less energetic than usual. And that his coffee cup was twice the size of most weeks.

"I was detained elsewhere last week," he said, "so I hope you had a decent class in my absence. Since I was in Japan, I thought we'd take a look at another notable Japanese mad scientist this week."

Remember that time when Spider-Man was a dirt bike racer who got psychic powers via a dying alien warrior from Planet Spider, and used them to summon both a rocket spider-car and a giant robot named Leopardon to battle rubber suit monsters? Japan does. )

Today the students were meeting in the gym, a table was set up with various boxes of... well, you could call it equipment. "Today we're going to be talking about fighting with a handicap," Jaina began. "If you do a lot of fighting, this can happen a lot. Injury's the most common, but there are a lot of outside influences going on, too, whether it's weather, relative darkness, the battle around you... I've fought while hurt, blind, deafened, powerless, and glued to the floor- not all at the same time- and there's never any real preparation for it actually happening. If you can get out of the fight, do so. If you're not on your game, you can get yourself hurt worse, or you can hurt others."

Hey, guess what, Jaina was a huge hypocrite here.

"If you can't leave the fight, then all you can do is try to adjust what you're doing around your new circumstances. Today you're going to practice on that. You're going to go to the boxes over there, put on one of the pieces- or more than one, if that's your thing- and take a turn on the punching bag to see how it affects what you do."

Cassie's head was hurting in a major way, so the last thing she wanted to do was leave her room and her bed.

However, it was Tuesday and she was due in the library.

Luckily for the books, there seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary going on when she unlocked the doors for the day.

If they knew what was good for them, they would continue to behave themselves like books in a non-Fandom library always did.

Once she was done shelving books and straightening the shelves, she turned the lights off in the section where her desk was and sat there, rubbing her temples every so often.

The test chamber -- sorry, "classroom" -- today contained recreations of several setups the students might remember from past weeks. There was the panel-equipped basketball court; the hard-light bridge that was the unholy offspring of a balance beam, a high wire, and science; a scaled-down version of the aerial faith plate vault-through-a-wall; a smaller repulsion gel pit (half the size, all the bounce!).

"Oh, you're here," GLaDOS said distractedly once test monitoring equipment scans indicated that an acceptable percentage of the students had arrived. "I have a situation to deal with at the main facility."

Which was to say that a bird had gotten in and made a nest in one of her old prototype mainframes, and now she had to go and goad the bots into taking care of it for her.

"Test on your own recognizance today. Assuming your memory isn't tragically short-term, these elements may be familiar to you already. You know what they say about doing the same thing and expecting different results?" She paused for an interval calculated down to the millisecond to be exactly long enough to hint at waiting for an answer, then interrupting before anyone could speak up.

"Go. Be that. I mean, do it."
