When class entered the Danger Shop today they'll that the zombies had returned. And as usual they were frozen in place just waiting for Columbus's control to be activated.

What wasn't usual was that everyone was in a parking lot. At night.

"We're going to go over two rules today," Columbus said as he motioned to the cars. "The first? Is always wear a seat belt. That might seem like a strange rule to have when facing a zombie apocalypse however as the population dwindles you need to make sure you take care to use proper safety when dealing with... just about anything. The other rule is to always check the back seat. No matter what you do when you get in a car... always check the back seat. Just trust me on this."

Columbus then waved to a row of cars at the other end of the parking lot. "Your assignment today is to get into a car and escape the zombie horde. Without dying. Try not to do that please?"

Last week, the teachers had gone and shown how amazingly responsible they were by offering to supervise their students in case they wanted to be idiots and run around killing deer and alots around this island. This week, Reno and Cindy had something far safer, but probably just about equally responsible in mind.

Which the students probably should have realized the moment their instructors armed them with squeaky hammers, mouse ears, and maps and then marched them across the causeway into Disneyland.

"Yo, Rookies!" Reno's demeanor was just about as easygoing as usual, with the added benefit of a pair of mouse ears perched on top of his head and a squeaky hammer in the shape of Goofy's face slung over one shoulder. "Today, we thought we'd put your knowledge to the test in another real-world scenario, yo!"

Did he look like he was trying to keep from cracking up, at that? Must be your imagination.

“Behold,” Cindy said, dramatically pointing towards the entrance. “Disneyland! Home of dreams and joy and imagination. Also crowds, loud children, and overpriced marketing!” Hey, she was a DC character Fable. She was allowed to crack on Disney and what they’d done to her story if she wanted. That’s why she wasn’t wearing a stupid hat, either. “We have armed you thusly to go forth and do battle.” She looked over the class, armed with their squeaky hammers and armored with more mouse ears and nearly had to wipe away a tear.

Holding in that much laughter was hard.

“You all look very brave and very fierce,” she assured them. “Your targets will surely tremble before you. As for those targets...” She pointed through the gates to where a pretty young woman in a frilly blue dress was simpering at a crowd of little girls. “You’re going after the costumed mascots of Disney.”

"Big Bad Wolf, Donald Duck, all them princesses and fairies and cut-an'-paste princes," Reno agreed, not even bothering to hide his smirk, now. "Any one of 'em is fair game in there, yo. All you gotta do is wind up an' give 'em a good thwack with the hammer," he demonstrated by turning to Cindy and giving her a nice, harmless bonk on the shoulder.

There was a squeak.

"An' then you gotta dodge security, yo."

“Now’s an excellent time to practice your skills in stealth, blending, hiding in plain sight, and, when all else fails, running like hell," Cindy said. "You’re also going to want to scout out your target before going in: the size of the crowd around them, presence of security guards, and bulkiness of their costumes are all going to impact how successful you are at completing your assignment like so.” And that was a squeaky hammer aimed squarely at Reno’s hip. Squeak! “Open air rides and rides that go very high are excellent resources for getting a view of the park,” she added, wearing her most virtuous expression.

Pinkie greeted the students as they came in with the biggest broadest grin she could summon -- which, it being Pinkie, was pretty big and broad.

And maybe a touch creepy.

"Welcome back, everypony! I know last week wasn't really the bestest week ever for a lot of you, so I thought this week we'd all take our minds off our gloomy troubles and laugh them away! Just like my grandmare used to tell me!"

Yep. That was totally a song cue.

Lyrics ahoy! )

After a pause for applause, Pinkie grinned at the students again. "Oh, I know it doesn't work all the time, but it's a great first step! And to get you all giggling today, we're going to play some of my very favoritest party games, and any games you want to play, too!"

The library aide was not on duty today, no.

She would hope her absence wouldn't discourage you from using the library for any research, reading, or non-nefarious purposes you had in mind. (If your purposes were nefarious, on the other hand, well -- she wasn't around to tell anyway, and what would she do about it if she could? Never mind.)

So no, Gabrielle wasn't there, but the library was still open.
