When the students entered the dangershop this morning they'd notice that the classroom was actually a classroom.

And there was also no zombies.

Say what? )

"Transformations are something that most of us here on Fandom know a little bit about," Cindy said wryly once class started. "Whether it turning into an animal for a few days or spending a weekend as someone entirely different--" and that was the closest she was going to get to talking about the other weekend, thanks much "--it seems to happen fairly often to people on this island. Of course, such transformations have their root in history and myth as well, dating long before the island was a school and fairy tales were written down."
Links ahoy! )

Cindy leaned back on her desk and looked out at the students. "So, transformation has clearly been a concern even of people who don't live on the island. While most of them seem to be cases of involuntary transformations, under what circumstances could you see the choice being voluntary? Let's discuss."

For today's class, Summer had set up the Danger Shop to mirror the coast of Australia. Next to Hawaii, it was her favorite spot to surf.

"I wanted to apologize for handwavily canceling class last week. I had a family emergency but everything's okay now." Sometimes, things happened. "Today, I thought we'd try our hand at the Australian surf. Some of the biggest waves sought by surfers are found in Australia, which is why I thought it'd be fun to try them out."

Summer smiled. "I thought I'd share a surfing trick with you that you can try out in the water. It's known as a floater," she added and continued on to explain how the trick worked.

"Feel free to try that out or any other moves you might've wanted to try before now. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Have fun!"

[OCD's a go.]

The news Master Skywalker had given her yesterday took some weight off Gabrielle's mind, but none of the intensity with which she'd thrown herself into the third (or was it fourth?) draft of the scrolls she was working on. She could have switched to paper, or gods forbid, a computer, but for something like this the process was crucial to the result, or so she'd argue if asked about why she was going through so much parchment. And the parchment was part of the process -- the crinkling sound as it unrolled, the leathery smell, the feel of it against her hand, the sound the quill made scratching against it while she wrote.

(Yes, she'd actually waxed eloquent on that exact aspect of her writing process more than once. It was entirely possible she took it far too seriously at times.)

Sure, there was the one moment shortly after she walked in where she had to lecture a few of the newspapers in the periodicals rack for rustling their pages indignantly in the direction of the young adult fiction, but she hardly minded.
