This morning Cassidy had walked in to a small battle going on between the books on auto mechanics and the books on computer repair. It was probably telling of how much she was getting used to things like this that she just put up shields around the armies automatically. Shaking her head, she started gathering up the books to shelve them again.

"So not the way for proper books to behave," she chastised each of them. "One of these days one of you are going to end up getting heavily damaged and that won't be enjoyable for anyone."

"Hello, class," Jane smiled on her students when they settled in and it was time for the lesson to begin, "in light of the upcoming weekend, I was thinking we might have a look at the idea of social structures in primate cultures. For most human, the predominant social structure is, of course, the family. The make-up of a family depends on a variety of things, but it is typically a structure of two parental units, a mother and a father, and their offspring. Some have less...since my mother died, for example, it has been just my father and me. Some have more: many cultures embrace the elder generation into the main family structure, building it from two generations to three. There are all sorts of other variations, as well. Humans have always been an incredibly diverse species, and other primate social structures are quite the same."

And then there was much copy-pasta and links. )

"There's so much to discuss and, most importantly, to think about, considering that we should have a wide variety of social structures represented from our eclectic student body as loved ones and friends show up for the special weekend. So let us open up the conversation and keep these things in mind as we can study the most peculiar of primates, the homo sapien every day in our passing lives!"

The students would find themselves in the Danger Shop again, in a climate even less appealing than the stinky ship of the previous week.

"Welcome to Nar Shaddaa," Anakin said, looking around with a slight wrinkle to his nose, "otherwise known as the Smuggler's Moon. This is where I ended up after I ran away from my master on Krayn's ship with the idea of rescuing the slaves. Obi-Wan escaped, and I was enslaved--again--and spent months underground here processing spice in the dark. I felt abandoned by the Jedi, by my master in particular, and grew very, very angry. My questions to you are threefold: how did you make the decision on the ship to either follow Obi-Wan or cut loose on your own, how would you react if you spent months enslaved on a moon and finally managed to get your hands on a weapon, and what do you think I did? "

"Okay, guys!" Ariel was, of course, incredibly bouncy and excited to get to a lot of work for this coming weekend. "Big day today! Anyone who wants to perform this weekend for everyone's visitors, we've really got to kick it out and get it together today! And don't worry if you don't want to perform; it's entirely optional, but definitely tell everyone about it! I'll put up posters, too, and I was thinking Saturday afternoon on the beach? Ooh, or maybe sunset would be nice! What do you guys think?

"Oh, and Robin brought up a good point about what the words meant, so I went and looked it up and let me show you the dance again and this time, I'll sing it in English, hoping that everyone would (naturally!) join right in:

Cut for lyrics and hula! )

"Much prettier in Hawaiian, I think!" Ariel finished with a smile. "So let's get to work. It looks so effortless on that show, putting together all this singing and dancing but...well, okay, maybe it is."

Things seemed to just fall into place like that for Ariel, too.

Class today was meeting in the computer lab.

"Okay," Alex said. "I apologize, first of all. We're taking a brief hiatus from the syllabus and typical class matters, this week. Class will return next week in its full discussion glory."

She held up a box. "This week, we're playing a computer game. One that starts you as the leader of a very small civilization -- just a few settlers in a town -- and asks you to conquer the world, all the while making decisions about what technologies you would like to pursue and how best to keep your citizens happy."

"So." She nodded at them. "You'll encounter some of the pitfalls we've discussed here, and hopefully that means you'll learn something. Shall we?"

"I was going to prepare a lecture for today's topic on Selkies but I thought we could watch a movie instead. The film centers on a teenaged boy who learns that his mother has taken a job on a remote island off mainland Australia. He's shattered that he must leave his friends and girlfriend and come with them. But what begins as the worst experience of his entire life becomes an important journey of discovery, as he learns that he is somehow connected with a mysterious and legendary line of Selkies - people from ancient Scotland who have the power to change into seals."

Summer smiled, hoping her students would find the film entertaining.

"Enjoy."

[Movie day brought to you by my mad dash to pack for Florida. Have at it!]

"I like irony," Lucas said to start the class. "So I'm going to keep this short. Dramatic monologues are a great way of conning academies into giving you awards. Really nail a good monologue and nobody will remember anything you messed up in a role."

"So what you're going to do this week is just get up and talk about whatever teenage drama you're going through right now. You can make crap up if you don't want to give your classmates any ammo, but it better be good. And it better be dramatic. Bonus points for crying."

"Oh, and try not to step on the pot on the floor when you come up," Lucas said, pointing out the broken potted plant on the ground. He couldn't remember how it got there. He didn't even remember having a plant in the room in the first place. Odd.

[OOC: The pot is all [livejournal.com profile] old_and_busted's fault.]

The Danger Shop looked like a museum today. Thankfully, there were no dinosaurs in sight, not even herbivores. "Excellent work on not getting yourself eaten last week. Bonus points to those of you who have violent tendencies for not killing anything. That is, as always, most appreciated. Now!" He pointed at the centrepiece of the room. "That is the Third Diamond of the Tsar of Halphageus Four. Not to be confused by the Fourth Diamond of the Tsar of Halphageus Three, which is only good for use as a paperweight. It holds down paper very well.

You're going to steal it. Borrow!" the Doctor corrected himself. "I meant borrow." He stopped again, then confessed. "No, I meant steal. The Third Diamond of the Tsar of Halphageus Four is a very useful power source that can fuel a device that will save your world and everyone on it, provided you can get retrieve it after hours without museum security noticing. Museums don't like their things taken, even if they are taken by the person the ancient messages are addressed to. Group work! Pairs, trios, quartets. I don't care as long as you're scheming with someone not inside your own head. After hours, low profile, heavy security on the case and the diamond itself. Figure out your way in and your way out with the diamond. You have the hour."
