In addition to the usual feast of junk food and highly caffeinated sodas, the brethren of Kappa Kappa Gremlin would find the usual meeting place filled with many other things. Various boxes filled with this and that and the other thing, all and sundries, with a whole lot of baskets, tissue paper, and, yes, even ribbons. (They were blue and yellow ribbons, though, entirely in the spirit of...er, well, school spirit, which made them quite suitable and not at all girly). And Alexander and Warren each held one of said baskets, already filled with a collection of items and decorated with the entirely manly addition of ribbons.

“You all might be wondering,” Alexander began, “what all these things and baskets might be for. Well, we were thinking that, as a kind and thoughtful gesture and a good bit of helping the community, we could put together gift baskets for the incoming guests for the approaching Parents’ Weekend this...er, weekend.”

There was, of course, an important pause.

“And, naturally, sanity baskets for ourselves and our fellow students.”

“Trust me,” Warren said, quirking a little smile, “they’ll appreciate it way more than our guests will.” He paused for a moment, to let that sink in, before pressing on.” When you’re putting together the baskets keep in mind that they’re not only going to be representative of Kappa Kappa Gremlin, but also of the entire school, so don’t go sticking in anything that might get your classmates in trouble with their family, okay?”

Alexander was not looking pointedly at Peter. Really! He wasn’t.

Okay, maybe he was. He cleared his throat a little. “But we’ve got a lot of different things to make the baskets unique and fun, everything from gift certificates for coffee and Squishies for our guests, to aspirins, tissues, earplugs for us.”

“Take a look through what we’ve got, and if there’s anything you think we could use to make the baskets better still, let me know,” Warren said. “I can make a run into town in no time to get whatever we need.”

William was in quite a good mood as he came in to the library today. Yesterday's date had gone very well, he felt, in spite of the oddness of the film's plot. Still, like so much else had done, he supposed society's taste in entertainment must have changed in the years between his own time and now. And it had been entertaining, if at times hard to follow.

At any rate, the film had also reawakened his childhood interest in dinosaurs, so that is what he could be found reading about today.

This week, Reno had seemingly recovered from whatever pet-induced trauma he had suffered the week before. By his side was a short, badly-dressed blonde girl.

“Hiya!” she chirped. “I’m Rikku. I teach Science here at the school. I’m also gonna be helping Reno out with class. Pleased ta meetcha.”

Reno looked pretty damn pleased. His girl helping out with class? Hell yes.

“This week, we’re gonna start doin’ things a little different, yo,” Reno said, grinning around the room as he leaned back against his desk. “Rikku and I got a plan to get you guys doin’ some important shit for, you know... people.”

Reno was awesome at communicating, shut up.

“We’re gonna break you off into three groups, yo. Your mission, whether you choose to accept it or not, is to pick a charity, an’ start brainstormin’ on ways to fundraise so that you can donate to ‘em, yo.”

“It’ll be fun,” Rikku bounced. “And it’s gonna help people, and that’s never bad, you know? And we’ll have some ideas on common fundraisers and so on next week, I mean, you don’t have to have the money by tomorrow or anything. This week, you’re getting into your groups, deciding on a charity, and talking out some ideas on what you might want to do. We’ve got some pamphlets from some charities here. If you all disagree, then you’ll need to be better at persuasion than the other members of your group. Or you’d better all learn how to compromise!”

Rikku was now going to start passing out the pamphlets. Because she liked pamphlets, and she had grabbed entirely too many, anyway.

“Let us know at the beginning of next class what kinda charity you guys went an’ settled on,” Reno said, smirking a little. “You’ll be pickin’ your fundraiser next week, but if you got ideas for that now, you’re welcome to throw your ideas around. Now, get to it, yo.”

"Fighting with powers... Most of this semester we've discussed powers that at least some of you possess, but today we're going to talk about one that, as far as I know, none of you have much facility with: enhanced speed."

"Like most powers, speed enhancements tend to vary in strength. You could end up with anything from a slight advantage to being able to move so fast that it's hard for the human eye to track you. Up to a certain point, you can fight people faster than you the same way you'd fight anyone else, but at a certain point that becomes infeasible."

Max smiled just a bit. "Now, a lot of people will tell you that someone who's enough faster than you is simply unbeatable, but that's not true. The trick to fighting someone who's sufficiently fast is to out think them. Just because someone is fast doesn't mean you can't anticipate their moves. For instance, if you can manage to fight someone in a narrow hallway you can guarantee which direction they'll come from. On top of that, moving that fast can be a danger. If you trip while running a hundred miles an hour, it's going to hurt when you hit the ground. So maneuver into bad terrain for moving, try to figure out what patterns your opponent will fall into (and they always fall into some pattern), and see if you can trip them up. Use their speed and momentum against them."

"If you can."

"Today's activity is actually pretty simple. You are free to work in groups, or to do this individually, but what you'll be doing is fighting these helpful little speedy drones that the Danger Shop has provided. The speed is moddable random on each one, so hopefully you'll all get a chance to try out a few different techniques and get a feel for how to fight opponent's with different speed levels."

"So, that's it. Get to it."

"Sorry, Sherlock appears to have come down with the flu today," John told the class, looking a little sheepish. And harried, at the same time. A sick Sherlock meant a sulking Sherlock who kept demanding things and texting him every five minutes to bring soup or medicine or a corkscrew (don't ask). "Which also leaves me with precious little time to talk to you lot today, so I thought we'd watch something informative about the birthing process this week."

Oh yes. It was a movie day. But it was an informative movie day.

"We might go into more detail next week, if you need it," he said, "And I know this is a bit-- old, but at least pretend like it's relevant...?" Please? "I brought pizza."

How better to bribe the younger generation?

His phone beeped.

"And that would be my cue to leave," he said, with a sigh. "I'll be back. For now, have the cartoon."

Which was Once Upon A Time: Life. About the birthing process (YouTube link). Oooooh, 80s cartoons.
