Today the class had been left notice, again in Genesis’ elaborate handwriting, to meet down in the Danger Shop.

When they arrived, they would find the Danger Shop transformed to look like a ballroom.

“Ballroom dancing,” Genesis began without preamble, or indeed, even a glance at his co-teacher, “is something that has long been held to exemplify grace, poise, and elegance. It can also, unlike some other dances, not be performed without a partner.”

“It’s somethin’ that most of you are gonna have to deal with, at least while you’re here bein’ a student, if you don’t wanna be stuck against the loner wall in the gym at dances, yo,” Reno added, from where he’d perched, in his chair. Which he’d dragged down just to sit in, because it was his chair, dammit, and Genesis had managed to snag it before him for the first few classes. “And knowin’ how to step around without breakin’ people’s feet is pretty useful, when you wanna impress a date, yo.”

Trips to the clinic were very rarely the hallmark of a good date.

Rarely, but not outside of the realm of possibility. Genesis merely looked pleased as he snapped his fingers and music began, a quick tempo’d dance.

“Pair up,” he murmured, loud enough for everyone to hear him, but only just. “And dance. Try to look like you’re enjoying it.”

Here it was. The start of a brand new semester with Kappa Kappa Gremlin, and Alexander thought himself quite clever by not having pizza as everyone probably suspected, but the next best thing, ice cream, awaiting the gentlemen as they gathered for their weekly meeting.

“For those of you who are new to Kappa Kappa Gremlin,” Alexander started with a proud smile, “welcome! For those of you who are returning, welcome back! My name is Alexander of Daventry....”

“And I’m SOLDIER 1st Class, Zack Fair!” Who managed to speak with exclamation points even after a crappy weekend. That was just how this puppy rolled. “And... I know you all probably know one another by now, since we’re already a few weeks into the semester, but since this is our first meeting, running through introductions just one more time can’t hurt, right?”

Zack nodded toward the ice cream, which was surrounded by massive heaps of toppings, from sauces and sprinkles to nuts and berries and all kinds of candy bits. It was like sundae heaven. And, in Alexander’s mind, the only thing missing from a presentation like that was a really, really bad movie.

“But as incentive to get us to all open up and talk about ourselves,” Zack continued, “and maybe to throw out a few suggestions for what you’d like to see the frat do this semester, there’s ice cream! With a catch. If you want to put anything on it, you have to share something with the group. Maybe something about yourself, or an activity that we can organize for a future meeting. You have to give a little to get a little, get it?”

“So, essentially,” Alexander offered with a grin, “for every topping you use, you have to tell us either something about yourself, or an idea for the fraternity. And, remember, we have a sister sorority now, too, so we’ll have to do what we can to keep up with the girls. Now, quickly, before the ice cream starts to melt, and whoever would like to go first, go for it!”

Once again, the books were behaving... strangely.

This time it wasn't the giraffes book, though. No, this time? Every time William turned his back, another book about llamas would mysteriously appear on the circulation desk.

"I do not need another book about llamas," he announced to thin air at one point.

It didn't do any good.

Today the Danger Shop was set up to be a mirror of town. Albeit a version of the town with a much more friendly climate. Late May warmth, with a nice breeze, stood in stark contrast to the chill that was actually present. But, really, if you were going to have the Danger Shop, might as well take advantage of the fact, right?

Max had picked the park as the place to set class, but the rest of the streets and shops were all modeled, if oddly empty.

Today we're going to talk about flight... )

"Each team will have five minutes to talk about strategy and make some plans, and then the fliers have until the end of class to succeed."

"Your five minutes starts now."

Fortunately for both the students and John this week, there were no anatomically correct drawings of the subject on the board. If only because Sherlock couldn't be bothered to deal with this part of the subject matter )

The science club would be meeting in one of the labs this semester. Please try not to blow anything up. Unless that was the point of the experiment.

"Good afternoon," said Spock. "This club is for the exploration of scientific interests. Professor Rikku has kindly agreed to be our faculty adviser for the semester, and we should all thank her." Even if she was kind of crazy, as far as Spock could tell. "I am Spock. I have not had experience running something of this nature, but I thought today it would be appropriate to discuss our background and interest in the sciences, and what we hope to accomplish over the course of the semester. I trust that will be agreeable." If it wasn't, he didn't have any other ideas.
