In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The idea of an outdoor picnic in the beginning of January might have seemed crazy to the new folks, but traditions were traditions, and every measure had been taken to make the picnic area as comfortable as possible.

Luckily, the weather wasn't too bad - it was sunny, at least, if a little chilly - and there had been quite a few bonfire materials left over from New Year's Eve. So, a handful of fires had been set up to create warm spots around the lawn, a safe distance from the blue and gold tables and chairs. The buffet table was loaded with warm foods, and hot drinks had been set up at the end to make sure everyone stayed as toasty as they wanted to. As always, there was a stack of nametags set down next two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

Once the shuttle arrived, the picnic would be ready to begin!

Jono had better things to do today than take in some bloody picnic. Like chill out with the books. Jonothon liked the books, damn it. The only chewing that he was expected to do on them was only in the most figurative sense, and he wasn't expected to do any socializing or speaking to them, and--

Had Jonothon ever mentioned how much he had always wished for this sort of excuse to avoid the hell out of the Welcome Picnic?

This was because Jono was an antisocial plonker.
