Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

Ramona found herself a drink and somewhere to sit and watch. So far, things hadn't been awful, and the desire to check her phone continually was decreasing.

Once Karla had settled her new younger sibling in, it was time for her to get to the really important part of the picnic--the food. Oh, and looking around for interesting people to talk to, sure. That too.

But, yeah, the food.

Sibling and roommate duties done? Check.

Jack got himself a drink and started checking out the crowd for faces he didn't know. Considering he'd spent the last semester being a recluse, there were plenty of them. This semester was a fresh start for him. His body language was friendly and casual and he even smiled at people he made eye contact with, giving a perfect opening for conversations.

Kyle was, of course, at the food table. He wasn't stuffing his pockets this year, but he was sneaking the occasional cookie away in one of his many pockets. Free food was free food. He looked around at the group, just as interested to see the new faces as he was to see faces he knew.

Sov was quite hungry and had filled their plate up with the food available, most of which looked tasty enough. Then they took a seat and dug into the meal, for a while distracted from the people around them.

Goose was there, having decided to come down to the picnic for a little while, he wasn't exactly mingling but he was there.

All of these picnics were starting to blur together, Ender noted, idly. He was in his usual spot, not at the center of activity but not at the fringes either; by now sitting there was an activity born more of mechanical habit than anything else.

Still, it was a new semester. He supposed he should pay attention.

Dolf was pretty hyped about all of this. It was his first picnic where he wasn't one of the people arriving, which meant he wouldn't be the new kid from now on - and meant that he had to take the duty of looking after anyone who looked like they didn't know what they were doing on his shoulders.

Sadly, that was his idea of a good time - especially since it wasn't exactly the weather for playing football out on the lawn.

Luke somehow doubted that this picnic would top last semester's in terms of excitement, but he was content with just standing around stuffing his face. The food was the best part about these things. He just wished it was warmer.

Leo had felt much more confident about himself now that he had gotten meeting Karla and Ramona out of the way and he hadn't made a complete ass out of himself and nothing ended up on fire. You couldn't ask for much more than that if you were Leo.

So now he was finally getting a chance to check out his surroundings. He had a cup of coca in his hand and was looking up at the castle, sort of amazed that he was going to school here. Much better than Wilderness School, by a mile.

Jeremy was good with crowds and parties, so he was totally cool being here. Maximum.

... Okay, so some of the things he'd heard of the place so far had him a little confused, and he was generally only used to crowds and parties where pretty much everyone knew who he was, but still. He was on top of the situation, walking around with a drink in hand. Maximum, right.

He couldn't help occasionally looking like a lost puppy.

Quinn was going to look merry, dammit. She liked the picnics.

She'd worn her old letter jacket from WMHS. It was warm, and some part of her liked that she was at least giving the impression of having once been somebody. Hands in her pockets, she walked around and tried to decide who to talk to.

Tara didn't always make it to the picnics, but she felt like coming to this one. For one, she hadn't really talked to anybody but Kennedy since the trip to Louisiana.

She wrapped her hands around her cup of hot chocolate and surveyed the group.

Ooh, picnic! And this time Bobby wasn't brand new! He could totally get excited over that. He might not have a new sibling or roommate (even if he kinda wanted one) but he liked meeting new people a lot!

He was bouncing around, looking for people who might need talking to.

The day Ariel got tired of parties would be a very rare day, indeed. Excited for the picnic, excited for the new semester, excited for new students, Ariel had plenty of snacks and something to drink and was just barely keeping herself from bouncing as she looked through the people to try to spot out all the ones that looked unfamiliar that she'd have to go and meet as soon as she'd finished her Cheetos.

Being human shaped was good. It meant he could eat and Jake had a huge plate to work on.

He'd checked up on his pack, letting them know he hadn't been gnawed on and had returned to the picnic without bothering to retrieve a shirt or shoes from his room. Look, he knew how this picnic worked by now. He'd just get talked out of his shirt anyway. Even if Layla wasn't there to do it.

Percy wasn't the new kid anymore which felt pretty good. It meant he (hopefully) wouldn't be surprised by mortal enemies, older cousins, or people with his face appearing.

If a younger version of his dad popped up, he was quitting school. For now, he was just wandering around, drink in hand, checking out the new kids.

Alex wasn't going to be emo at a welcome picnic. There were better things to do and he didn't really want to think about his stupid issues. Instead, he'd just partake of the free food and find a spot near the edges of the crowd so he could light a cigarette and watch the crowd.

After yesterday, Bod had contemplated not coming to the welcome picnic. It hadn't taken long to realize that brooding in his room would just make him seem antisocial and isolated.

He didn't want to seem that way so he'd forced himself out of his room and down to the picnic. He'd always had fun at these so maybe his quiet mood wouldn't last. He hoped so, at least.

Stuffing her face was usually a great way to put off the cravings, but Caroline was going for cool, not eating disorder. So she sipped on a cup of soup and tried not to stare at the kids who just didn't look normal.

Finding a piece of fruit to nibble on, Alexander sat back from the crowd a little, and watched the crowd with an amused look on his face. He figured he should take the initiative to be social, but, at the moment, he felt like feeling the picnic out a little first. It seemed, to him, reasonable, and his mind was all too easily distracted with the hope that, as he scanned the new students, he'd see a familiar head of black hair and bright eyes. He knew it was wishful thinking, but one never knew...

Warren had kind of agonized over his options today. Wings, or no wings? Maybe just sit the picnic out entirely? But guts had prevailed, and so he'd gone the honest route, wings folded over his back.

He was, however, standing with his back to a tree, so they'd be slightly less obvious at a glance, and he was wearing the bracelet that Karla had given him for Christmas, so he could hide them in a hurry if anything went wrong.

For now? He'd found coffee. Sweet, life-giving coffee.

There were still no farm girls, there looked to be a decided lack of porn and the only saving grace was the free food that seemed to be all around him. All in all, it could be better but Nathan really had nowhere else to go so he stuck around.

The fact that he was drinking punch of a out plastic glass was just sad and he was sure he'd find someone who'd listen to him complain. Americans were supposed to be good listeners, right?
