Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

[OCD is up! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Some people like to ascribe some manner of sentience to the island," Ender replied, taking a seat next to him. "Other people might call it magic. On the other hand, there's machines underneath the surface, which might well have a lot more to do with it. My best guess is it affects the space-curvature of the universe somehow. Think of it like a moving gravity well in multi-dimensional space."

If this Tony was anything like the last one, that might help.

"But the math would never add up," Tony said, actually giving this thought. "Unless you came up with a completely new model for it..."

Oh god damn you, Ender.

He paused and looked back at Ender. "You're sure this isn't some joke?"
endsthegame: (is always watching)

"Go to the library and pick through some of the journals. Crunch some numbers," he said, "You'll find they're all saying the same thing. Though no one's come up with a conclusive alternate physics model yet."

Say what you want about Ender, but he was good at this bit.

Tony sighed, slumping down. "This older me. What was he like?"

"Older," Ender said, easily, "More caustic. Self-involved, but a brilliant inventor."

"That has to be weird for you." And Tony. But he was repressing. Repressing.
endsthegame: (looking that way)

"A little," Ender allowed, "But I have a roommate who has a habit of acquiring new family members from different points of the timeline almost every picnic. You get used to it, don't worry."

"Huh." Tony stared at the crowd for a moment. "Thanks," he managed in his own teenage boy 'this never happened' way.
endsthegame: (being attentive)

"So I suggest you get some more pie," Ender said, with a little extra hint of commander in his voice - he figured Tony could use as much to hold on to as possible at the moment, "And then check out our library and start making sense of this."

"Yeah," Tony agreed, starting to relax a bit. "I think I will."

After he got to charge his heart, that is.

"Hey, you wouldn't happen to know where the electric meters are on the school, would you?"
endsthegame: (lurks at you)

"Some," he said, "But I'd need the map in front of me to point it out. Why?"

Ben was the one with the handy photographic memory.

"I have some electrical needs," Tony replied vaguely. "I need to know if it can accommodate the extra draw."
endsthegame: (ender is in charge)

[personal profile] endsthegame 2011-01-02 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. Ender thought he had some idea as to what Tony's electrical needs were. Not quite at the arc reactor yet, probably.

"I'm pretty sure it can," he said, instead. "Or at least the electrical net in Fandom should. We're used to some esoteric machinery around here."

"Good." Tony nodded as he seemed to think things over and maybe do a few equations in his head. "So, are you from some place some version of me is?"
endsthegame: (is coming up)

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[personal profile] endsthegame 2011-01-02 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"No," Ender replied, because that was an easier answer. "I'm from the year 2170, and so far, history in this universe seems to be running right on schedule, if the history books from mine are to be believed. Nothing about a Tony Stark."

Ender gave that a soft laugh which lasted all of two seconds. "Not really," he said, "People are people, wherever you go, so from my perspective, it's just a fact of life. Besides, you'll find some with more outrageous stories soon enough."

"Witches, knights and astronauts," he said. There was a hint of wry humor to his voice. "You dream it, we deliver."

[identity profile] hoorayimrich.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Witches?" Hey, astronauts was totally normal. For a kid who invented an exo-suit.

"Witches," Ender agreed. "If you're interested to see the magic users in action, I think there's a meeting every Wednesday. Just don't expect everyone to stick to the regular laws of physics."
