Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

[OCD is up! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Bruce took a quick glance around before leaning in and whispering, "Use one of the abandoned warehouses. You should be able to find a way in. They're relatively isolated and discreet."

Then he straightened up and said, "But yes, checking with a teacher is probably the proper starting point. Who's teaching the powers class?"

"Ah! I never thought of that!" The park, by the way? Not a good choice. "I'll totally try that next time! Awesome idea!"

Although now Momoko was wondering what he was doing that he knew that.

"I think it's Centurion? I'm not totally sure. I'd have taken the class no matter who it was."

It took Bruce a moment to put that together - he didn't remember seeing that name anywhere, but he did know of a teacher who knew a thing or two about Centurions - and said, "Maximus? I don't know how much he knows about magic specifically, but he definitely knows fighting. I'm sure he can help."

"Ah! Sorry! That's his name, yes! I had a class with him before and he said we were to call him Centurion instead of teacher. He's really good with weapons and strategy and running. He really likes running." Oh, she'd forgotten that about him. Was this class going to be all running, too?

"I wonder if magic counts as a power?"

"I'd be surprised if it wasn't covered sometime in the semester," Bruce said.

Not if it wasn't a power, silly.

"So, why aren't you taking that class if you're going to be fighting at home? Do things not have powers where you're from?"

"Well, I'm not really planning on fighting anything back home. If something happens, I'd like to defend myself, but that's mainly against normal crime," Bruce said. "I mean, Gotham's a city of mobsters and thieves right now, not of flying people with super strength."

The key words were 'right now.' He had some knowledge that it would change in time, but he could prepare for that later. He needed to build the strongest foundation possible first.

Momoko stared at him.

"GOTHAM?!?"

How had she not known he was from Gotham? She totally had to watch what she said, now! At least until she talked to Dinah again. Or Roy. If Roy was even talking to her anymore.

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2011-01-03 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
"You're familiar with it," Bruce stated in an even voice. "It doesn't exist in your world, does it?"

If it got that kind of reaction from her, but she was unfamiliar with the name 'Bruce Wayne,' it seemed unlikely.

But if she was familiar with the name 'Wayne' from, say, a certain manor, it was entirely possible that a person with all of that information might realize that Bruce was one of those Waynes.

Oh no. Oh no oh no oh no. How much could she say?

"No? At least, not that I've ever heard of, but I've been there? I have, uhm, other friends from there. I totally didn't know you were, too!"

Momoko was busy running through her conversations with Dinah and trying to remember if she'd mentioned Bruce... Ah!

"EH? WAYNE?!" As in the Wayne Foundation, Wayne Towers, Wayne Manor (with the comfy princess bedrooms and Mr Alfred)... Oh, now she REALLY needed to talk to Dinah.

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2011-01-03 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
She mentioned Roy, so that was one. He seemed to know a lot, but Bruce was confident he wouldn't say anything. Raven, Zatanna, and Hayley didn't know anything relevant. He had no clue how much Jason might or might not know. Dinah was far into into his future and seemed fairly familiar with the Wayne legacy. If they were friends, there was really no telling how much Momoko could know just based on the historical record of the time.

"Yes, I'm that Bruce Wayne," Bruce said maintaining his even tone. "And I'm from a different version of Gotham, apparently years before anyone else, so the Gotham I know is probably a lot different than the one you know."

It was probably up to interpretation if the next statement was a request, a plea, or a threat, but regardless, Bruce felt the basic point would be clear if he lowered his voice just a tiny bit. "I'd appreciate it if we could keep it that way. I want my future to be my own."

[OOC: I couldn't get to sleep while thinking about this ping. But it's done! SP to make sure we do whatever else needs to be done justice? :D]

Momoko nodded. A lot. The tone of his voice had nothing to do with it, though; she didn't want to do something that would hurt Ms Helena!

"I already messed up with Roy, so I totally understand!" Not that she knew how she'd messed up, but she had. "I don't know about you, but I totally know your family's name, so I'll be careful! Can I ask a strange question? Is it pretty, your Gotham? I mean, the one I know is pretty, but it sometimes seems really dark. Almost like it's hiding a sad secret."

[silly! Go bed! and I am always up for SP! JUSTICE!]

Bruce gave a slight nod to her promise, figuring that was all that needed to be said.

"It was. Maybe it still is, but I have trouble seeing it that way," Bruce admitted. "But I plan to do what I can with the Wayne family name to bring it back to what it was, even in my eyes."

[personal profile] heromaniac 2011-01-03 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that she was afraid of Bruce, but it totally was all that needed to be said. Momoko liked Ms Helena, and Mr Alfred made cookies almost better than Jaime! She wasn't going to mess that up.

"The Gotham I know is awesome, don't get me wrong, okay? I mean, I have the same problem when I look at stuff about Tokyo in this world; it's just totally not like it's happy with itself." She shrugged, resignedly. Different worlds were so weird. "I do think it's great that you want to help, though! I'm always getting asked to do public service announcements about recycling and citizenship by the mayor's office."

"Just another one of the duties a superhero has, I suppose," Bruce said. "Do you make public appearances at festivals or whatever as well? That's a serious question, not sarcastic or anything."
heromaniac: (Momoko is grinning up at you)

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[personal profile] heromaniac 2011-01-04 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, totally!" She rattled off on her fingers. "Festivals, parties with important people, bodyguard duty for high-profile tourists. Even guest appearances on tv and commercials. If the Mayor is down in the polls we're practically on-call. We work for the Mayor's office, you see."

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
"So it actually is a job. You're not just a vigilante, working on your own," Bruce said. "How did you become affiliated with the Mayor? Did the office approach you, or did you volunteer for it?"
heromaniac: (team)

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[personal profile] heromaniac 2011-01-04 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
"It really is a job! I get paid and everything!" Vigilantes wouldn't be tolerated in Tokyo City. "When we got our powers, the Mayor helped the Professor track us down and then offered us the job of protecting the city. We totally didn't know it would be so much other stuff, though."

She rolled her eyes. "We only fight the monsters, so I guess he thinks we have a lot of free time and owe him, or something." She was fond of the Mayor, but not the politics.

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Is it just monsters, or do you fight regular criminals, too?" Bruce asked. "And sorry about all the questions. I'm just a curious person."
heromaniac: (laugh desk friends talk)

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[personal profile] heromaniac 2011-01-04 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Nnn! I can answer these questions!" She grinned at him. "We only fight monsters back home. Regular criminals are taken care of by the police. I know that's weird on some worlds, so I'm trying to learn how to fight humans, too. It's totally different! You can't just throw them into buildings or drop them from high places. They break!" Stupid real-world physics.

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Remind me not to get into a fight with you until you get better at not breaking people," Bruce joked.

Although this did help him formulate a solution to how he could fight someone like, say, Clark if a mind-altering fog caused him to attack again: befriend other people who were apparently massively strong. It was a simple solution, and one Bruce couldn't believe he didn't think of before.

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[personal profile] heromaniac 2011-01-04 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm much better now!" Momoko laughed. "Although I usually only fight the criminals across the causeway in Baltimore and not anyone who actually knows how to fight." When she's not in New Gotham, that is. "Except for Dinah and Azula, I mean. But they're trying to teach me so it totally doesn't count."

Dinah. Well, that confirmed his earlier suspicions.

"Of course. Training is how you learn, so it's completely different," Bruce said, giving a confirming smile. "If you were just picking fights with people around town, that's where it's an issue."
heromaniac: (smile innocent)

[personal profile] heromaniac 2011-01-04 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
She tsked at him. "I don't pick fights. That's totally not something a Hero of Justice does."

"I'm glad to hear that," Bruce said. "But you definitely don't seem like a random bully anyway, so it never seriously crossed my mind."
