Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

[OCD is up! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Pretty much," he nodded. "I know someone whose younger sister was older than her here. At least you'll know to take people serious when they warn you about things," he offered. "My little sibling things I'm nuts."

"I don't think anyone's nuts. I know a guy who punched a hole in the moon for me," Ramona offered. "There's weird crap at home for me, too."

Jake's eyebrows went up. "Sounds like it. That's definitely a new one. He liked you a lot then?"

"He did," Ramona said, shrugging. "And then we broke up, but whatever, things happen. But what I mean is that I'm not shocked easily."

"Good to know," he nodded and glanced away, considering this whole being upfront thing. "I'm warm because I'm a werewolf, it's part of the package. There's actually a few vampires around as well and people who know magic."

And now there was staring. "Werewolf?" she asked, brows arching up. "Seriously? That's...really new, too. But not bad, just new."

"Was for me too," he assured her. "I'm not dangerous or anything. No biting and all that jazz, that's just made up. Most people around here tend to be different in one way or another."

"This explains why people keep asking if this is my natural hair color," Ramona replied thoughtfully.

Jake grinned. "It would, yeah. There's a girl around with green skin, so it wouldn't be all that surprising if it was real. What about your world? What kind of weird things are you used to? Aside from the moon thing."

"I mean, it's not really all that weird to me," Ramona offered. "We don't have vampires or anything, though. I mean, vegans have psychic powers, and there's stuff like that, but everyone knows about that."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I hate to disappoint you but that's the first time I heard that," Jake snorted at just how casually she'd said that. "We've got telepaths, but I don't know if they're vegans."

[identity profile] dabblinginbitch.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Seriously?" Ramona frowned. "Yeah, that's how you get those kinds of powers at home, you know? And sometimes things just show up when you need them, but that's not really a power so much as just how things go." She shrugged. "My normal is probably weird to you guys, from what I'm gathering."

"I'm guessing it is," he agreed instantly. "The things showing up sounds handy, though. Does it work with food too?"

Four weeks as a stuffed animal, he was allowed to be one track minded.

[identity profile] dabblinginbitch.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've never seen it happen with food," Ramona replied thoughtfully. "Usually weapons. And sometimes if you do really well in a fight, you get an extra life."

Because that was completely normal. Totally, totally normal.

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, give him a moment to stare at her.

"Okay, that's not fair," Jake decided. "I'm supposed to be breaking your brain, not the other way around. How can you get an extra life?"

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[identity profile] dabblinginbitch.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think you have to defeat your enemy in a time limit, or something," Ramona said, frowning in thought. "I've never had it happen to me, just heard about it. But sometimes you get bonuses during fights and stuff, too, and that helps you get closer to a life, too. But you have to be really good to get a second chance, is the thing."

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right," he said slowly, possibly a little weirded out there. That and he thought it was unfair he'd never got a bonus for a fight. "Do you do a whole lot of fighting?"

[identity profile] dabblinginbitch.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, but things come up, you know?" Not for most people, Ramona. Not for most people.

"Sort of," he wasn't exactly sure if it compared to what he had in mind. "They do here, at least. We've had our share of invasions, so you won't get bored."

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[identity profile] dabblinginbitch.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Invasions?" Oh, look, now she was expressing some mild alarm. "Like...what kind of invasions?"

"The worst one I've seen was when this mad scientist decided to come take over the island," Jake explained. "He'd made these weird monkey-horse type things and there were dinosaurs attacking people. Then there were the gremlins, these small things with sharp teeth and claws. They weren't too hard to kill, there were just too many of them."

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[identity profile] dabblinginbitch.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"...I think you just out-weirded me," Ramona decided, staring.

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"I feel better now," he teased, but shook his head. "It gets hairy, but a lot of kids around here know how to fight. We haven't lost a fight yet, and it's happened twice now since I've been here."

At least he wasn't bringing up Silent Hill. The place still freaked him out, and she didn't need to hear that on her first day. "Most of the time it's just random stuff. Like it will rain caramel or you end up bursting into song."

"Well," Ramona decided, digesting that. "It sounds tasty, at least."

"Yeah, food is something you'll never be short of here," he motioned towards the tables. "I think the school's worried parents are going to think they're starving us or something."
