Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

[OCD is up! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Adjusting?" Hank asked. "Adjusting to what? Pffft. How are YOU adjusting to ME?!"

"I'm not," Bruce said. "I was just saying hi."

"No, you were telling me I can't handle school! Well, I'll tell you what, I can! Just because I've never been before doesn't mean I'm not totally awesome, all right?"

"I didn't even know that you'd never been to school," Bruce said. Although he probably could have figured it out inside of a minute of conversation. "But boarding school can involve something of an adjustment for most people."

He wasn't even going to mention Fandom weirdness. Just the school part was going to be a challenge with this kid.

Hank contemplated that. "...Adjustment, eh? So you're saying school... is like a chiropractor? That's good, 'cause my Learning Bed wasn't all that comfy."

Sure, the SCHOOL part was going to be a challenge with Hank. The Fandom weirdness? Not so much.

"No, I'm not saying that at all," Bruce said. "Did you say 'learning bed'?"

That had to be exactly what it sounded like. Bruce couldn't imagine what else it could possibly be.

Hank nodded. "Yeah, but my pop says I'm supposed to just tell people I was homeschooled, because they wouldn't understand. Whatever. I mean, I understand it, so it can't be too hard!"

"Most people don't learn from beds," Bruce said, taking that as confirmation that it was, in fact, exactly what it sounded like. "So it'll catch people off guard."

"Nope, just us," Hank confirmed. "My grampa invented them, with his science and stuff. They're stupid and boring, anyway."

"So you're excited for the change to a real school?" Bruce deduced.

"AND HOW!!!" Hank agreed. "Plus, a bedroom with no supervillains attacking will be an Added. Bonus."

"That happens to you often?" Bruce asked.

"Only like ALL THE TIME!" Hank replied. "My pop's a superscientist and he's got, like, all these different guys that hate him professionally. It's fun sometimes, but it gets old pretty quick."

Bruce just had to check. "Have you ever been to Gotham City?"

Superscience, supervillains... It was starting to sound like some of the versions of Gotham he'd heard about. Hank didn't seem to recognize him, but, well, that didn't necessarily mean he didn't exist as a personality outside of Hank's worldview.

"Gotham City," Hank mused. "Gotham City... Gotham... ummmmmmmm..." He scratched his head and shrugged. "I don't know! I've been all KINDS of places, though. What country is it in?"

"If it exists in your world, it's in America," Bruce said. "And if it existed there, you'd know it."

"Not necessarily," Hank countered. "There's a LOT of things I don't know."

"In that case, I hope you get a lot out of your time here," Bruce said.

At a real school. Not a bed.
