Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

"Would I leave you alone with all that scary kitchen equipment?" he asked, laughing. "We'll just have to make grilled cheese all the time. That's the only thing that I can manage."

"I can make a quesadilla in the microwave, and Pop Tarts," Emma shared. "So we won't starve to death. Besides, I've had your grilled cheese. I could probably eat that for a week and not get sick of it."

"Oh Emma, complimenting my grilled cheese is the way straight to my heart," he joked, sighing. "Now we have to get married."

"Alas, I've made a vow not to consider marriage until I'm at least thirty," Emma said, mock-heartbroken. "I suppose ours will have to remain a forbidden, unconsummated relationship."

"Thirty, really?" Alex replied, amused. "Aren't you afraid you're gonna be all old and wrinkled by then?"

"What are you talking about?" Emma asked, pretending to be annoyed. "I'm going to be young and beautiful forever, and there's no reason to tie myself down before getting to enjoy the finer parts of life. Not even the promise of your cooking will sway me."

"You found the Fountain of Youth or something?" Alex wondered, amused. "Because, last I checked, everyone gets old, Emma dear. It's just the ones who age gracefully that make it look good."

"You don't think I could make it look good?" she pouted. "That hurts, Alex. Really."

"Well, I dunno," he said and reached to tough a finger to each corner of her eye. "I'm seeing some crow's feet there, Emma. Might be failing already."

"I do not," she retorted, turning her head to try and bite that finger. "You're just being cruel, teasing me like that."

Alex pulled his hands away and laughed, shaking his head. "Don't bite me. There's plenty of food if you're hungry but you can only bite me if you're going to make it feel good for me."

"When have I bitten you that you haven't enjoyed it?" Emma asked, perfectly smug. "Don't fib, Alex, it doesn't suit you."

"Hey, no one's bitten me lately," he said and that was the truth. "Maybe I've forgotten what it feels like."

"Are you asking me to remind you?" she replied, covering up her surprise at that statement. "I didn't know you missed me so much."

"What, you saying you don't miss me?" Alex wondered. "I doubt that. Everyone misses me."

Dammit, Emma had missed him. She'd been mostly avoiding him since the week everyone's hormones went out of wack, because she'd come so close to simply pouncing on him, but there were things about her that Alex just got, and it was nice being around someone where she didn't feel like she had to be perfect all the time.

"Of course I've missed you, darling," she said, pretending to be affronted. "Did I ever say I hadn't? But my question still stands, and you haven't answered."

"Maybe I need a reminder or two," Alex said, having no idea what he was saying or why he was saying. His mental state over the past few weeks had been a little scattered.

Wait, seriously? "Well, I do have perfect recall," Emma purred, keeping up the banter despite having no idea why he was saying what he was saying. "Maybe if you ask nicely during class sometime, I'll slip right in and remind you why you've missed me."

"Do we even have a class together?" Alex asked, raising an eyebrow and not denying that he wanted something like that, something easy and carefree.

"Did we, or did we not just discuss how we're in home ec together?" Emma asked, shooting him a (slightly) concerned glance. "And even if we weren't...I can easily reach from the dorms to the school, or vice versa."

"Please, like I remember what happened five minutes ago," Alex said while his mun facepalmed at her stupidity. "You gonna slip me dirty thoughts while I'm baking?"

"I dunno." Alex shrugged, looking amused. "What do you want?"
