Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

[OCD is up! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I...think so. For the most part," Anduin said, still reeling a little from all the unexpected aspects of this new school. "It's been an interesting day so far, let's just put it that way."

"It has a habit of being for anyone who just got here," Ender said. The light, friendly expression was still on his face. "Where are you from?" he asked, not about to make Anduin's sense of reeling worse.

"I'm from Stormwind. In a place called Azeroth," he said, having learned to add that part. "It's, well, nowhere close to here, I think."

"Most places most of the people here are from are nowhere close to here." Yes, Anduin definitely reminded him of someone, but only fleeting, in passing. "It's the differences that are the most interesting. What's it like?"

"Oh, Stormwind is amazing," Anduin said, grinning almost immediately. "It's a fairly large city, and what I've seen of the town here reminds me a bit of it. The streets aren't very wide and there's lots of little shops and houses and the most beautiful cathedral, and everyone's sort of all together, like the mages, and the dwarves, and they all make their spaces their own but we're all part of the same place." He blushed a little when he realized he'd been babbling. "Sorry, I think I might be a little homesick. And a little biased too. It's, um, going to be my kingdom someday."

Ah, the age-old 'what's it like' - always very useful if you wanted to get to know people, or at least figure out if they were doing okay. "It's fine," he said, "You're in a new place. It must be a little jarring, even if it's reminiscent of home."

"It is jarring. I've never been this far from home before," Anduin admitted. "How long have you been at the school?"

"I've been here for two and a half years," he offered up. "Which means my own memories of coming here are a little foggy, but I'm probably one of the longer-term students hanging around."

"Longer-term? Do most of the students only stay for a little while?" Anduin asked. He wasn't sure how long he'd have to stay, so the idea that others came and went as well gave him some hope that he wouldn't be away from home for ages.

"A lot of people don't come in until their junior or senior years, or they leave midway into their stay here," Ender explained. "Fandom can be a pretty transient place."
