Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

"Somehow I doubt it," he snorted. "Instead, I got to be a stuffed animal for the past few weeks. Maybe I shouldn't tempt the island for anything more."

"I was thinking it had been a while since I saw anybody really tall," Quinn commented idly. "How does that work? Like, are you a thinking stuffed animal, or are you just sort of there?"

Jake scratched the back of his neck. "It's kind of weird because I remember what happened, but it's not like you can do anything at all. It feels a bit like a dream or something."

"... weird," Quinn decided, staring a tiny bit. "Did your roommate carry you around or anything? The worst the island's done to me is toss me in a locker for a couple days."

"Rosalind took me to some places so it wasn't too boring," he said, trying not to think too much about how weird that sounded. "How come no one found you sooner? I'd think there's cleaning staff around even when there aren't any classes."

"It was one of those ... portal ... thingies," Quinn said, word fitting uncomfortably in her mouth. "I wasn't really inside the locker. It was just weird."

So descriptive.

She shrugged. "It's all over, right?"

"Right," he agreed, frowning a little. "It's good you were able to get back then as it could have dumped you anywhere."

"I guess," Quinn said. "I think I would have rather been a stuffed animal. Safer."

She added, "So does that mean you missed Christmas and everything?"

"Next time you can be a stuffed animal and I'll get thrown in a locker," he bargained. "Yeah, I missed Christmas, New Year and exams. The last part isn't too bad."

"Unless they hold you back a year," Quinn frowned. "Do they even do that here?"

"I have no idea," he frowned, "but then it's still 2006 back home so I'm not sure if it'd matter a whole lot."

"I forgot about that, if I knew it," Quinn said. "Time travel still makes my head hurt."

"You and me both," he snorted. "At least I've got no one from my world around to tell me my future."

The leech didn't count. Leeches never counted unless he was keeping track of how many he'd beaten up.

Quinn glanced over, trying to see if she could spot Puck through the crowd. "The only person here from my world is from now," she said. "Just a ... very different now where our friends haven't gone insane."

Jake blinked in surprise, struggling for a moment to find the proper response. "That doesn't seem fair."

"It's only insane by Lima standards," Quinn said. "Joining show choir, dumping me for the most annoying girl on the planet, that kind of thing. It's actually kind of comforting that things seem to be normal back where Puck's from."

It was telling how Fandom had conditioned him to take things rather literal first.

"I can see that," he agreed, just for one moment imagining that world where there were no leeches. "It'd probably be worse if things were the other way around, I think that'd sort of thing would make me paranoid things are going to blow up."

"Right in my face," Quinn agreed. "And now that it's been a month? I still think Finn's a moron, but I'm feeling pretty good about being single. So things could be worse."

"I'm pretty sure he is," he grinned at her. "Honestly, you're better off then if he can do anything like that." He grimaced. "Not that it helps, I know."

Quinn shook her head. "It's okay. I have better things to do with my time than obsess over some guy who'll probably never make it out of Ohio. Sorry to bring you down."

"It's fine," he assured her. "I'm good. I can actually eat things again, that's kind of making my day."

Quinn laughed. "Don't miss the hot chocolate, then," she advised. "Even if you don't need it like the rest of us."

"Is it good?" he waggled his eyebrows at her. "I might have to now."
