Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

[OCD is up! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Dolf was pretty hyped about all of this. It was his first picnic where he wasn't one of the people arriving, which meant he wouldn't be the new kid from now on - and meant that he had to take the duty of looking after anyone who looked like they didn't know what they were doing on his shoulders.

Sadly, that was his idea of a good time - especially since it wasn't exactly the weather for playing football out on the lawn.

Triela had just finished unloading her stuff at the dorms when she headed out to the picnic. She spotted Dolf and decided to head on over.

No reason to let the fact that it was her last semester stop her from getting to know people better, right?

"Hey again."

"Hi!" he said, turning towards her somewhat merrily. "How are you doing? Except for cold, I mean."

"I don't notice the cold too much," Triela shrugged. "But other than that, I'm just glad to be back on the island."

"And we're glad to see you here too," Dolf assured her. Not that he knew if she needed the assurance, but he was in that kind of mood. "What have you been doing?"

"I was back in Rome. They had to run some tests."

"What about you? How did you spend your break?"

"I played football in the gym," Dolf said, shrugging, "And that is all. It has been really quiet here without everyone."

"You didn't go home?" she asked curiously. Dolf had struck her as one of the more normal people in Fandom. Though that was all relative. Still, she'd thought he'd go home to his family.

Something sadder became apparent in Dolf's expression, and his shoulders drooped a little. "I can't reach them," he said, "I've been calling since I got here, but nothing."

"Oh." Triela's own eyes darkened.

"I'm sorry."

"Everything happens for a reason, right?" Dolf said, a little desperately. That's what the children had believed, and he was starting to see the upsides of that attitude.

Triela opened her mouth to tell him that most of those reasons were bad, and stemmed from human greed and stupidity, but she paused. Oddly enough, she found herself wanting to assure him instead.

"Most things, at least," she offered. "Even if we don't know what they are yet."

"Right," Dolf said, rubbing at the side of his pants. "And it wasn't all bad here. More food at the cafetaria for me."

"You should have said something," Triela began. "You could have visited me."

Actually, he couldn't have, but now that the opportunity was past, it couldn't hurt to make the offer. And maybe it would make him smile a bit.

Predictably, it did make him smile, just a little. "I've been near Rome before," he said, "Maybe next time. I could practice my modern Italian."

Triela laughed. "Speaking of practice, we should figure out when we're meeting this semester."

"Well, you know my schedule for the most part!" he said. He was relieved for the different subject. "Wednesday afternoons are my only big thing."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Still?" she asked with a grin. "You didn't take the opportunity to change things up this semester?"

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[identity profile] swordsandsoccer.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have classes," he said, "But you know they don't take very long, and nobody's running football practice."

Which might have made him a little pouty.

Triela had to laugh. Back at the Agency Amadeo had a running joke about forming an all-girl's football team using the cyborgs. He'd even bought them all balls one year.

"Well, you could do something about that, you know." She grinned. "No one's stopping you."

"Maybe, but I haven't met anyone who plays!" Dolf argued. "They're all American."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, I'm not American!"

Not that Triela played, but... still.

"But you never come playing football with me," he pointed out.

Oh god. Don't make him break out the puppy dog eyes, Triela.

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"You never asked me," Triela pointed out.

As if that were the reason.

"Then you should."
