Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

"You're sounding a little bitchier than usual," Alex remarked, raising an eyebrow. "Something happen to piss you off?"

"My new little sibling is a younger version of someone who was previously on the island -- and also exists in my world -- and has an ego bigger than the island," she sighed. "Oh, and I'm finally legally free of my family, but some sick and twisted part of me wishes that they'd at least made a token effort at trying to get me back."

"So no, nothing out of the ordinary happened to make me 'bitchier than usual.'" For Fandom? That was relatively mundane for causes of emo.

"They gave you another little sibling?" Alex asked, sticking on that part for the moment. "Do they want you to corrupt all the young minds on this island? Are you their secret weapon?"

"Maybe. He didn't believe me about Fandom being a bit 'Special' or my telepathy, so he ran away from crazy Emma as fast as possible." Which hadn't hit a nerve or anything after her breakdown during her kidnapping, no. "I think I traumatized him at least a little bit."

"I was even trying to be nice, too." No you weren't, Emma, don't lie.

"Nice?" Alex raised an eyebrow this time, looking mock offended. "Emma, you were trying to be nice? I don't think I know you anymore."

"Fine. I was trying to be mildly friendly in case he was the Tony Stark from my universe, and then he'd owe me a favor someday," she snarked. "Happy?"

"I am much more at ease," he explained, nodding. "People like us aren't nice, Emma. I'd be so sad if you were suddenly converted and started baking cookies and shit for the new kids."

"Baking cookies might be the cruelest thing I could do for them," Emma pointed out. "I'm a horrible chef."

"Does that mean you're not taking home ec this go 'round?" Alex wondered, amused. "I am."

Emma groaned and rested her head on her knees. "Someone thought it would be funny to put me in it," she grumbled, tapping off the excess ash. "So does this mean you'll be my partner in burning down the kitchen?"

"Would I leave you alone with all that scary kitchen equipment?" he asked, laughing. "We'll just have to make grilled cheese all the time. That's the only thing that I can manage."

"I can make a quesadilla in the microwave, and Pop Tarts," Emma shared. "So we won't starve to death. Besides, I've had your grilled cheese. I could probably eat that for a week and not get sick of it."

"Oh Emma, complimenting my grilled cheese is the way straight to my heart," he joked, sighing. "Now we have to get married."

"Alas, I've made a vow not to consider marriage until I'm at least thirty," Emma said, mock-heartbroken. "I suppose ours will have to remain a forbidden, unconsummated relationship."

"Thirty, really?" Alex replied, amused. "Aren't you afraid you're gonna be all old and wrinkled by then?"

"What are you talking about?" Emma asked, pretending to be annoyed. "I'm going to be young and beautiful forever, and there's no reason to tie myself down before getting to enjoy the finer parts of life. Not even the promise of your cooking will sway me."

"You found the Fountain of Youth or something?" Alex wondered, amused. "Because, last I checked, everyone gets old, Emma dear. It's just the ones who age gracefully that make it look good."

"You don't think I could make it look good?" she pouted. "That hurts, Alex. Really."

"Well, I dunno," he said and reached to tough a finger to each corner of her eye. "I'm seeing some crow's feet there, Emma. Might be failing already."

"I do not," she retorted, turning her head to try and bite that finger. "You're just being cruel, teasing me like that."

Alex pulled his hands away and laughed, shaking his head. "Don't bite me. There's plenty of food if you're hungry but you can only bite me if you're going to make it feel good for me."

"When have I bitten you that you haven't enjoyed it?" Emma asked, perfectly smug. "Don't fib, Alex, it doesn't suit you."

"Hey, no one's bitten me lately," he said and that was the truth. "Maybe I've forgotten what it feels like."

"Are you asking me to remind you?" she replied, covering up her surprise at that statement. "I didn't know you missed me so much."

"What, you saying you don't miss me?" Alex wondered. "I doubt that. Everyone misses me."
