Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

"I hope they are," she said, frowning a bit. "Is there anything I can do?"

"Well... there is something." Triela paused and shook her head. "I'll explain it later, though."

She didn't want to get too side-tracked from figuring out what was up with Ino, after all. Triela didn't have too much time left, she'd rather spend it on helping her friends than having them worry about her.

She nodded slowly. "Alright," Ino said, "I'll expect you to tell me then."

Triela nodded. "I will." After all, she was actually on a schedule with this one.

Ino rubbed at her face and sighed.

"My turn, huh?"

Triela just sat silently, waiting. Ino could take her time that way.

Plenty of pressure!

Ino petted her chicobo, which trilled happily and settled down in her lap. "It started, I suppose, before the break," she said, keeping her head down. "And just got worse from there."

Triela stayed silent. She suspected that Ino was still working up to telling her... whatever. No need to interrupt or rush her.

Right?

Ino kept her gaze focused on her... pet, she supposed... as she thought of what to say.

"Due to events prior to the break," Ino settled on finally, "I went to Konoha for a--vacation. Zack came with me."

She chewed her lip.

"Konoha was--attacked." Flat flat flat. "It doesn't exist anymore."

And that was just the start of her crappy holiday.

"You didn't tell me before." That wasn't an accusation, just an observation.

Though... Triela wished Ino had mentioned it.

"I ain't really had a chance to tell no one," she said, with a sigh. "Zack knows, and Reno knows."

"Fair enough." Triela suspect it was more that Ino hadn't wanted to tell anyone, but... that was fine, really.

She eyed Ino thoughtfully. "You said that was the beginning?" If things got worse from there... yeah. This didn't sound fun.

"The beginning."

Ino paused, not sure where to go from there, truly.

"How long did you have before whatever happened next?" A timeline might be a useful place to start.

"It's--complicated?" she said, a bit pathetically. "As time was weird on my planet."

"Ah. Those always make things tricky."

Triela waited for a moment. "What happened next?" Somehow she suspected she wasn't going to like hearing it.

"We--helped, a little, until we... couldn't take it," and that still hurt, that she'd been willing to leave, "and then we went to Reno's Gaia."

Ino closed her eyes.

"My village had been blown up," she said quietly. "Picture a world where every village we saw was that bad off."

"So it was just one big reminder..." That had to have sucked.

She shook her head.

"Yes and... more than that," Ino said, before falling silent. "It's hard to explain."

Triela frowned.

"Something happened."

"Yeah."

And she looked absolutely exhausted at that.

"I don't want to talk about it," she said, flatly. "Not--'cause of you. But 'cause..."

If she talked about it, it'd be real.

Ino wasn't ready to accept that Zack being dead was real in any universe.

"If you talk about it you can't keep ignoring it," Triela suggested a bit hesitantly. The Conditioning meant she didn't have to worry about that herself, but she still saw it in those around her.

"But if I talk, then I have to admit it's real. And that means--there's a few people who I have to deal with and I... I can't."

Not now.
