Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

[OCD is up! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Tony snorted in amusement. "Do you think everyone has this same problem?"

What, being billionaire orphans?

"Maybe not the same, but definitely similar," Bruce said. "Most people seem to be at least somewhat anonymous to the rest of the student body. But hearing about witches and time travel the second they step off the bus? That's typical."

"I still have to find the library to check that out, though." Yeah, his skepticism was healthy even if Ender was pretty damn honest with him. There was a difference between being told and knowing it after research.

"I've heard things about it, but I've never spent much time in there," Bruce said.

"Well, it's not like they have a lab to use to look into it." That was less ominous than it sounded. Honestly. He didn't even touch the soft sciences!

"I'd suggest talking to the Doctor if you aren't taking his class. He's extremely knowledgeable on a variety of... strange topics, so he might be able to point you in the right direction for how to test some of it," Bruce said.

"Doctor who?" Yes. He went there.

"He's just the Doctor," Bruce said. "It's not always easy to get him to focus, but he's really brilliant."

Bruce didn't drop compliments like that easily.

Tony nodded. "There were a few guys like that in my dad's lab." It was totally normal.

Somehow.

"I'll have to find him."

"So you're something of a scientist, Tony?" Bruce asked. He'd mentioned the word 'lab' twice already. It didn't take a great detective to figure out.

But a great detective did figure it out.

OH SNAP.

Tony perked right up at that. "Yeah, I've been--" And there went some of the cheer. "I was working at my dad's company. It's a technology firm."

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really? My father owned a technology company too," Bruce said. "You haven't heard of WayneTech, have you?"

The fact that he didn't know the name Stark from the business world was enough to let Bruce know that they were from different worlds. That's the only reason he gave the name to a theoretical competitor so soon.

"Wayne?" Tony gave it thought. "Not that I recall. But my dad did more of the business side than me. I liked the design process better."

"You would have heard of us if we were in your world," Bruce said. "What kind of things have you designed?"

"Recently? This laser system that can remove soil while leaving the objects in it intact. My dad was big into archeology."

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Does it disintegrate the soil, turning it to a kind of ash? Or is it a matter transporter?" Bruce asked.

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[identity profile] hoorayimrich.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Disintegrate," Tony replied brightly. "Well, really it's vaporizing it since you can't just make something disappear."

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Most people wouldn't have corrected me on that," Bruce said. "You really do have a mind for science."

"I have the record for the most patents for someone my age," Tony replied proudly.

"Something tells me you'll be a good person to know around here, Tony," Bruce said.

[identity profile] hoorayimrich.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Tony snorted in amusement. "What about you? It's not everyday I meet someone also from a technology firm."

Who wasn't in their 30s.

"My father owned several companies. I haven't been very involved in any of them yet, but I'm trying to make sure I know enough that I can successfully run all of them," Bruce said. "And that has come in handy a few times, yes."

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[identity profile] hoorayimrich.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"More interested in the business side?"

Re: General Mingling [Spring 2011]

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not sure what I'm more interested in yet," Bruce said. "My parents died when I was eight, so Wayne Enterprises has really been run by businessmen who don't necessarily want a kid hanging around anywhere important."

[identity profile] hoorayimrich.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh." Tony nodded in understanding. "If you wanted to know about some of the tech, I could help. It's not that hard if you work at it."
