Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

"I'm Ariel," she said, reveling in the chance to meet his bow with a curtsy. She'd never get sick of those. "It's so nice to meet you, too, Anduin! Are you excited?"

"I'm very excited, actually. I've never been to a school before," he said. "And I've never been this far away from home either. It's all a bit...well, terrifying and exciting together."

"Oh, don't be scared," Ariel assured him, smiling to hear such an assessment. "It really is wonderful here, but I can see why you might feel that way if you've never really been far from home. But how great to get out and see what else there is in the world! There's so much. I know I couldn't wait to see more than where I'm from..."

"Neither could I. I've always dreamed of getting to explore other places." He'd just wanted it to be under better circumstances. "My father is very protective though. Sending me here is a big step for him."

"Really?" Ariel's eyes widened with the spark of meeting a kindred spirit. "Mine, too! In fact, he almost didn't let me come here at all, but, in the end, he realized how much it meant to me, and so he allowed it, as long as I come home to visit every once in a while!"

"I...I'm not sure when I'll be able to get home again," Anduin admitted. "There was a...natural disaster, and it isn't safe right now. My father sent me here to protect me, and while I understand in a way, I wish I could have stayed to help."

"A natural disaster?" asked Ariel, eyes going wide with surprise now. "Is...everything okay? Will you still have contact with someone to know how things are going?"

"Oh, yes, I should still be able to reach my father and my aunt," Anduin said. If he couldn't, there was no way they were going to be able to keep him away. "There was an earthquake, of sorts. Part of the city was actually washed away..." With a soft smile, he shook his head. "I shouldn't be telling you all of this. We're having a celebration, aren't we?"

"Well, sure," Ariel said with a small smile, "but it can't be that easy celebrating knowing what's going on at home, can it?"
