"Yo, Rookies!" Starting class this way was pretty much tradition now, yes. "Hope you all had yourselves a good stupid holiday, and didn't end up doin' somethin' completely idiotic, like runnin' around as a giant chicken throwin' candy in people's faces, yo."

Clearly, Reno's Halloween had been an interesting one. He was starting to wonder just how many colours of chocobo he could possibly turn into thanks to this island.

"Today, we're coverin' the focus of the last of the island's three reserves groups, the Magic Reserves. I'm gonna state first and foremost that not everybody who attends the magic group actually has magic, yo. They'll accept any kind of powers, be 'em magic, mutant, genetic engineering... All that kinda crap."

He meant 'crap' lovingly. He, after all, was fairly enthralled with his lightning-centric spells.

"Obviously, this kinda group's not for everyone on the island, just like not everybody's gonna be big on wavin' a weapon around, and there are people who get squeamish around injuries. That's why the three different groups cropped up, yo. Started with the fighters, and then people went, shit, we wanna do somethin' too. Which is... pretty much what Fandom's all about if you ask me. But I'm digressin', here."

Reno actually knew what 'digress' meant, and today he felt like showing that fact off, yes.

"The point I wanna make is that, no matter how powerless you think you are, no matter if you got powers of your own or not, every spell's got its counterspell. Every broken bit of supernatural equipment's got a fix. You don't gotta be a magician or a Jedi or a mutant to be able to keep yourselves safe, yo. You just gotta be willin' to keep on your toes, to open up your squishy little brains and think. That's how Fandom's gotten through their worst moments, and, Rookies, that's how we're gonna get through 'em time and again."

Once again, Reno was giving his hand a wave. Which meant that this was going to turn into Danger Shop fun times, wasn't it? Oh, yes.

"So, we're gonna put them brains of yours to the test today, yo. Powers are allowed today, but that don't mean you gotta use 'em. Sometimes, they don't make these things all that much easier in the first place."

The bad part of having a job was that you had to be there each week.

Rinoa would have never thought that being in a library would be a hardship, for her. But it wasn't so much being in the library as it was being out of her room, where she had been hiding for the past day, and would have liked to hide for the next several.

When you had thoroughly embarrassed yourself as some trampy soul-sucking vixen of the night, you did not really want to run into some of your victims. Or any. At all.

And so Rinoa was going to spend a great deal of time today in the stacks, putting away books, and checking the organization of the books already shelved. Anything to keep a low profile ...

Cindy wasn't there for class today. This was because she was very busy with important things like being a pair of glass slippers.

But Jaime had been out of town over the weekend, and had sort of missed radio, so he was just sitting with the rest of the students waiting. And then Cindy wasn't there for the start of class. And then a few minutes went by and she still wasn't there, so Jaime decided it was time to improvise!

"Um... Ms. Perrault is... running late today," he said awkwardly, moving up to the front of the classroom. No she wasn't, Jaime. And chances were most of your fellow students knew more than you did. "So we're going to... um... delve a bit more into what we talked about last week." There was a pause, and his eyes widened. "Not more writing!" he said quickly, flushing bright red. "I mean, we watched that scene from North by Northwest last week. Today we'll be watching from the beginning."

He needed to come up with a good reason for doing that, though. Oh! Right! "Pay attention to what sorts of other metaphors are being used, and we can discuss them when Ms. Perrault gets here."

She wasn't coming, Jaime. But nice try.

Boy, it sure was a good thing he'd borrowed the film from Cindy last week. Because it had looked interesting! Not for any other reason, of course!

Today, the reserves group had been told to meet in the Danger Shop, and that it would be a good idea to bring along their weapon of choice while they were at it. The usual assortment of coffee and cookies was there, along with a fairly impressive amount of Halloween candy. It was on sale after the holiday? Score!

"Heya, guys," Zack practically chirped, sword on his shoulder and a grin on his face. "Today, we thought we'd do something a little different, and pit you up against an opponent who has a bit of an advantage against you all!"

Or, rather, eight advantages against you, as your Danger Shop opponent today happens to have ten tentacles. Being a giant squid will do that.

For some reason, the tentacles thing concerned Maladicta more than she could put into words. And made her more than just a bit glad that she never wore short skirts.

"So, we hope you will all give a thought to how teamwork can make this battle go far easier for you." A beat. "And no, using someone as a human shield does not count."

Kennedy could put into words exactly why the tentacles thing was wigging her out, but hopefully you'd forgive her for not really being up to doing that today; you'd just have to deal with the distasteful look on her face expressing it for her.

"Yeah, human shields are right out, guys," she said, patting the stock of her crossbow. Note how she was opting for a ranged attack on this thing? No hentai nightmares for her, thank you very much. "But we'll give you a break and let you have a few minutes to figure out a game plan. Against these odds, that's kinda fair, right?"

There was no Fansworth in class today. Farnsworth didn't want to teach today, he had a robot to build, and so he decided that he wasn't going to. This did not mean his students would get off easy and not have to come to class, either. He'd still want them to suffer.

Which is why he rigged the door to shock anyone who tried to just leave early.

On the board was scribbled: "Assignment for today: Watch video on quantum physics. Take notes. Write six page essay on concepts of jumping dimensions and traveling through them. Also, no, I'm not dead. Sooooo sorry to disappoint you. --HJF.

At least they didn't have to deal with him today, right?

"We're still keeping some pretty good numbers," Kyle remarked when they were due to start. "If there's anything you've seen on TV or that you've seen someone else do that you want to learn, speak up. I'm coming up with ideas from moves I know or saw on the YouTube. This week I thought we could try getting down from high places. We'll move down the other end of the street where we don't usually go so it's not familiar territory. Don't get too comfortable. The point is to learn how to deal with any urban terrain, not to memorize one place. We'll start on the roof and work our way down. No rules on how you get down. Mr. Bond's not here this week because he's a dog, so I'll stay down on the ground. If anyone thinks they're going to fall, hold on tight and one of us will come get you. But try not to fall," he added lightly with a smile, "everyone looks pretty stupid when they fall."
