"Good day, my young miscreants," Jack said as he paced along the beach. "I don't suppose any of you were also chased by your laundry last wee--it is not important! Today, what is important is planning your escape!"

He waved his hands expansively. "Yes, generally, the islands you are marooned upon are chosen for their extreme inconvenience in terms of being anywhere people are inclined to go or the ability for their trees to grow boats, but sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes those very same qualities make the island attractive to other criminal elements, though none, of course, as romantic and interesting as the pirates. Today, cherubs, we make boats and wait for the rumrunners!"

As the students entered the Danger Shop, they would realize they weren't quite on the dojo, or the mats. No, they were in the middle of a city, at night. It was a relatively quiet night, and the streets expanded to the horizon in front of them. It was, as well, awfully silent, and dark. Sitting on a bus stop bench, Faith would motion each and every entering student to sit on one of the chairs in front of the bench, in the middle of the street. There weren't cars around, of course. Differently from other times, the Slayer looked pretty serious. Relaxed and chilling, but serious.

Once everyone was there, she got up, but made a single hand wave to let them know they could stay sat if they wanted.

So far... )

Rather than pastries and coffee, today Cindy was supplying individual bags of popcorn and bottles of soda for everyone. "Today we'll be watching a movie seemingly created to make anyone with even a basic grasp of natural science and logic cringe," Cindy said cheerfully. "Not only did it bomb in the box office, it actually helped spark a reaction to get real science into science fiction movies."

"Feel free to keep a list of the physical impossibilities and logical fallacies that you see portrayed in the film," she added. "If you'd prefer just to watch, here are some handouts that explain some of the more egregious crimes against science in this movie."

"This week's going to be a bit of potpourri," Alex said, setting down her tea on her desk. "You'll be doing closing arguments, which are very similar to opening arguments, except that you'll want to incorporate points from the trial itself. If you got a damning admission on cross, if you made salient arguments with your own witnesses, this is the time to pull those out."

"Or." And that was probably unexpected. "Or, you can postpone your closing arguments to next week, and instead ask questions about the draft you're working on so far. In that case, I'll expect a slightly more impressive close."

"In the meantime: we'll be reviewing for next week's final. Ask questions. And if you'd like to go over a past scenario that you're fuzzy on, I have the Danger Shop controls set up. You can do more Voir Dire, or examining witnesses, or anything you'd like."

"Shall we?"
