Being Marooned [Thursday, June 17]

"Good day, my young miscreants," Jack said as he paced along the beach. "I don't suppose any of you were also chased by your laundry last wee--it is not important! Today, what is important is planning your escape!"

He waved his hands expansively. "Yes, generally, the islands you are marooned upon are chosen for their extreme inconvenience in terms of being anywhere people are inclined to go or the ability for their trees to grow boats, but sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes those very same qualities make the island attractive to other criminal elements, though none, of course, as romantic and interesting as the pirates. Today, cherubs, we make boats and wait for the rumrunners!"
vanillajello: (Everything sucks.)

Not much, Del assumed. Listening to Jack, however, was something akin to her weekly dose of craziness, so needed for her to survive.

"What's the difference between pirates and rumrunners?" Kurt asked.
vanillajello: (Looking up the stairs.)

Yeah, Kate... was probably going to try and make someone else do all the work again. She'd call it teamwork, but it probably wouldn't be that.

She looked around for someone.

Christian was someone.

Unfortunately, Christian's mechanical skills were nonexistent. So, he, too, wanted someone else to do the work.

"I don't suppose," he said, "that you're secretly a shipbuilder?"
vanillajello: (You say funny things.)

"Yeah, that's what I do whenever no one can see me," Kate deadpanned. Then she shrugged a shoulder and shook her head. "Nah. I could model for a figurehead, but that's about it."

"I've heard of stranger hobbies," Christian answered. For example, the day before he'd had a conversation abut taming rocks. He started poking at the pile of wood. "I could see you as one of those mermaids, but I don't think we're going to make one out of what we have here."
vanillajello: (All amused at you.)

"I don't know, a wooden mermaid might attract the rumrunners," Kate suggested with an amused smirk. "But yeah. Probably not what we should be trying to make."

"But it might be more fun than trying to make a boat with back hair," Christian smirked right back. "This is the oddest class, isn't it?"
vanillajello: (Talking to Ben.)

Kate made a face at that. "I was trying to repress that particular piece of information," she said. "I think there are weirder classes, though. Like, anything that's taught by Vice Principal Deadpool."

"I haven't met him yet," Christian said. "Should I? How bad can he be, if he's a principal?"

... oh, poor, naive Christian.
vanillajello: (Calm and looking at you.)

My, he really was new, wasn' he?

"He wears this red pajama costume thing," Kate said. "All the time. And a lot of what he says just makes no sense at all."

"It sounds," Christian said, not entirely certain his leg was not being pulled, "as if he is a very creative gentleman. Perhaps an artist?"
vanillajello: (Not really.)

Kate shook her head. "Nah, he's just crazy." Even if it did sometimes seem like he was in on some joke that others just didn't understand. "I think he usually drives the newbie shuttle. You didn't see him?"

This was one of those times when Delirium lamented not having hair on her back, really!

But, no sense on complaining. So Del was already gathering seaweed, the idea of making a dress of it becoming increasingly strong as she worked.

Tim collected seaweed, cut down saplings and started binding his logs together with neat knots.

Bruce got to work making his boat. If he had even a sharp rock, he probably would have started carving out a kayak. Instead, he was just getting a raft together. A boring old raft. Well constructed, of course, but still boring.

There was a multicolored miscreant willing to have some nonsense today.

"How did you cut the hairs on your back?" It was either that or asking to see his back, really.

"Can you talk crab too! Awesome." It was so hard to find people that talked crab in the island.

"They are picky on the payment method, though."
