Being Marooned [Thursday, June 17]

"Good day, my young miscreants," Jack said as he paced along the beach. "I don't suppose any of you were also chased by your laundry last wee--it is not important! Today, what is important is planning your escape!"

He waved his hands expansively. "Yes, generally, the islands you are marooned upon are chosen for their extreme inconvenience in terms of being anywhere people are inclined to go or the ability for their trees to grow boats, but sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes those very same qualities make the island attractive to other criminal elements, though none, of course, as romantic and interesting as the pirates. Today, cherubs, we make boats and wait for the rumrunners!"

"I haven't met him yet," Christian said. "Should I? How bad can he be, if he's a principal?"

... oh, poor, naive Christian.

My, he really was new, wasn' he?

"He wears this red pajama costume thing," Kate said. "All the time. And a lot of what he says just makes no sense at all."

"It sounds," Christian said, not entirely certain his leg was not being pulled, "as if he is a very creative gentleman. Perhaps an artist?"
vanillajello: (Not really.)

Kate shook her head. "Nah, he's just crazy." Even if it did sometimes seem like he was in on some joke that others just didn't understand. "I think he usually drives the newbie shuttle. You didn't see him?"

"I might have. I was too busy trying to figure out where the horses were to pay attention."
