"Next week is your break," Sirius said with a slightly evil smile. "Which is lucky, as this week we have an interactive midterm for you to work on while you're supposed to be relaxing."

"Today we're assigning your pairs -- and one group of three. Over the course of the week, you will be playing Spy versus Spy! attempting to disarm one another. I cannot stress this enough, though -- any injuries will result in no credit and an immediate detention, and that's the very least of your concerns at that point. Your opponent will need to declare a surrender to denote a victory. You may agree upon the terms during this class, but anyone using their powers to hurt another student will, again, be severely punished."

Sirius held up really ugly belts with red flags attached to them. Someone had been raiding the gym supply closet....

"So you'll be wearing these. The first of the pair to steal the other person's flag wins. Listen carefully for your names. " He waved his wand and a piece of parchment appeared:

Kennedy v Tony Foster
Jack Priest v Mirax Terrik
Dru Anderson v Lois Lane
Helen Haras-Uquara v Makita
Chuck Bartowski v Proto
Jonas v Warren Worthington III
Charles Gunn v Leda
Jon O'Neill v Hinata Hyuuga v Liz Sherman (v Jon O'Neill)

"Today we'll be looking at love and deception," Drake said. "In movies, deception is often played for laughs. Take, for example, the movie meta for Never Been Kissed. Twenty-five year old wanna-be reporter Josie was a loser in high school, but sees a chance to have a do-over when she is assigned to pretend to be a high school student and write a story about the students. While she's there, she falls for her English teacher, who thinks she's just 17, and he's not too happy when he finds out the truth. And in meta for 10 Things I Hate About You, the lead character finds out that the guy she's falling in love with was hired by her sister's would-be suitor, because said sister was not allowed to date until her older sister did. This one's an adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew, by William Shakespeare. Willy and me, we go way back.

"Anyway," Drake went on, "both movies end with the lovers reunited, and all is forgiven. But do you think it's possible that someone can deceive another about who they are and cause them pain, yet still have a happy ending?"

All of the chairs were pushed back against the walls today when the students entered the classroom. There was, however, an assortment of pillows and cushions scattered on the ground.

"So I know your syllabus said that there would be a midterm exam or project today," Paige told her class once they had arrived. "But I didn't really see the point in having an exam when we're so close to spring break. Instead, you get a movie today."

She pulled down a screen and started meta for Practical Magic.

Ziva opened Study Hall a little early today, so she had time to get on one of the computers. McGee had sent her an e-mail explaining how to watch the Olympics online, since a certain station was refusing to show things at the right time, and figuring out how to do something on the computer was a safer option than sending threats to television executives. Less fun, of course, but safer.

Once the library was set up for the day, Sam got settled in with a stack of books stashed discreetly behind his desk. So far, he'd found a number of spells to locate someone, but none of them were ones he could actually do. He was getting annoyed and frustrated with everything, but he was working as hard as ever to hide it.

Nick was nowhere to be seen when the class arrived today. Instead, they had Claire standing in front of the room, looking equal parts nervous and excited.

"Hey, guys," she said. "Professor Chevalier called me this morning and said he couldn't make it today. Since I don't know much about the history of medicine, I figured we could talk about the future of medicine instead."

And something she personally knew about.

"Evolutionary Biology is the study of how a species changes over time. It first emerged as an academic discipline in the 1930s and 40s, but didn't really hit its stride until the 1970s and 80s. Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution was a driving force in the field. There is some scientific basis for the theories of human evolution, given the vestigial organs our bodies currently possess, like the appendix and wisdom teeth. They obviously served a purpose at some point in our history, but as our bodies evolved, those functions were no longer necessary."

Claire paused to flip through the notes she had hastily put together.

"Some people believe that the future of human evolution is the development of superhuman abilities, something we have numerous examples of here in Fandom. So let's discuss that. What kind of powers and abilities have you seen here or at home? Do you think they are the result of evolutionary biology or something else?"

So there wasn't a 'real' ice rink in Fandom which George was terribly disappointed about.  An' it wasn't fair t'be askin' Bobby to keep th' pond frozen th' whole time while practicing so the hockey team met in the Danger Shop.

George already had skates on as people arrived, and he was really, really way too excited.

"Evenin' lads," he said.  "There's skates o'er there for everyone.  Find a pair that fits and make sure ye lace 'em up tight enough cause otherwise yer ankles do hurt.  We got sticks too t'get into th'habit o' havin' them, but we're not goin' t'be havin' pads today."

"Today ye wanna get in th'skates and get comfortable on th'ice and then there's a bunch o' pucks o'er there an' we can practice tryin' t'get them in the net."

He eyed the pucks for a moment.  Slippery, bouncy little bastards.
