Danger Shop - Wednesday After Classes (After Cheerleading)

So there wasn't a 'real' ice rink in Fandom which George was terribly disappointed about.  An' it wasn't fair t'be askin' Bobby to keep th' pond frozen th' whole time while practicing so the hockey team met in the Danger Shop.

George already had skates on as people arrived, and he was really, really way too excited.

"Evenin' lads," he said.  "There's skates o'er there for everyone.  Find a pair that fits and make sure ye lace 'em up tight enough cause otherwise yer ankles do hurt.  We got sticks too t'get into th'habit o' havin' them, but we're not goin' t'be havin' pads today."

"Today ye wanna get in th'skates and get comfortable on th'ice and then there's a bunch o' pucks o'er there an' we can practice tryin' t'get them in the net."

He eyed the pucks for a moment.  Slippery, bouncy little bastards.

... Okay. These were, indeed, skates.

Zack wrinkled his nose a bit while he worked on pulling them on. The actual lacing of them wasn't all that difficult, but then he had to wonder how in the world he was supposed to stand up in them afterward.

This could be interesting.

[personal profile] bitchprince 2010-02-17 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Skates. Laces.

Arthur was starting to think he should've made Merlin come with him.

This didn't keep him from being an expert at lacing them up, mind. After a few spirited false starts.

Since the Magic Reserves was also using the Danger Shop, Karla was around when the hockey team came in. And since whatever they were doing involved George ice skating, Karla was happy to stick around and watch.

Laughing at Arthur was just an added bonus!

Bobby was already in a bit of a Mood, so the fact that he had to wear skates on the ice especially rankled him, today.

Still, on they went.

"I'd be better if I didn't have to wear these," Bobby admitted, grimacing at the offending footwear.

Kurt grimaced. "At least your feet are foot-shaped," he complained.

Thrilled to finally be participating in a sport, Clark happily got himself skates and set to work lacing them up. It was taking actual effort to go slowly because he was just so excited.

Re: Mingling

[identity profile] bamf-tastic.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
... Skates. Huh. Kurt hadn't really thought this part of it through.

When you're used to walking on your extra-long toes, and have a nubby dewclaw on your heel, shoes that weren't custom-made were a problem.

He managed to find a pair of skates that were extra-long, though, and forced his feet into them. To anyone watching closely, it would seem like he managed to pull them on over top of his sneakers somehow.

Re: Mingling

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2010-02-18 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle struggled with his skates. He couldn't get the upper part of the skate tight enough, so whenever he went to stand up, he almost rolled his ankle.

"You're on the hockey team?" Karla asked, surprise. "Really? And...no one minds?"

By 'no one,' she meant 'Arthur.' Who wouldn't let her in the frat, either.

"Should they mind?" Alice asked, tilting her head oddly at the other girl. "Do I smell unpleasant and no one mentioned it?"

"I don't think so," Karla said, leaning in and taking a delicate sniff. "No, you smell fine," she said.

It was important to check! A good friend (or a decent stranger) would do that.

"It's just that you're female. And some people--" dagger glare at Arthur "--won't let you join certain clubs if you are."

Okay, Zack was on the ice! See? Zack! On ice!

It was possibly painfully obvious that he'd never skated before in his life. He was working on that. Really.

If nothing else, the hockey stick came in very handy for helping him get upright again every time he landed on his butt.

Re: Skating!

[personal profile] bitchprince 2010-02-17 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Arthur, for one, was applying himself rather thoroughly to the act of keeping upright on his skates. It was a mix of natural aptitude to all things sports, a certain amount of grace, and a great deal of pig-headed determination that kept him upright eventually.

He wasn't even going to deign to think about following Zack's example and relying on a crutch.

Bobby was off to a bit of a wobbly start, but after a few minutes was gliding around on the ice as if he belonged there or something.

Which, well, he kind of did. Even if having something between his feet and the ice felt positively unnatural.

It did do the trick as far as improving his mood slightly, though.

Re: Skating!

[identity profile] bamf-tastic.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Kurt had GREAT balance, normally... but his feet were currently forced into an unnatural position and crammed into shoes that weren't designed for them. So he wobbled out onto the ice unsteadily and winced a little as he skated.

Re: Skating!

[identity profile] notyourpawn.livejournal.com 2010-02-18 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Alice had not been skating in years, and she was much taller now, and curvier in stranger places. She pushed off a touch hesitantly, but discovered that the movements returned to her almost immediately. Sense memory was a rather smashing thing.

I find this sign-in highly prejudical against those of us who don't watch hockey because speedskating is much awesomer.

Also because we suck at hockey that isn't ladies' field hockey.
