furnaceface: (Reading)

When Jono arrived to open up the library today, he was a man on a mission. He'd already ensured that Professor Démon's reading list was good to go for the next few weeks. Today, he was using the books and newspapers at his disposal to find out exactly what he'd missed in the music industry over the past decade and a half.

So far, he was finding himself thankful that he'd managed to miss Britney Spears, he was on the fence over the Spice Girls at least until he could listen to their music, and he wanted to hunt down Kanye West and put him through a bloody wall.

So really, it was a productive day.

"Good afternoon, good afternoon, please don't forget about the snacks," Glinda said as everyone came in, while gesturing to a plate of chocolate-peanut butter fudge and carafes of hot chocolate. "Today we're going over the six ways to make people like you." She began passing the stack of handouts around. "While you're looking at that, I'd like you to start thinking about what you could do more often. Today, I want you to pair up with someone in the class who you haven't had the opportunity to meet or talk to yet, or someone who you don't know particularly well. Try to use the six ways Mr. Carnegie laid out, and we'll regroup and see how they work."

The classroom where the Fandom High Student Council met had been transformed into a makeshift boardroom for the occasion. Barney sat waiting for them at the head of the table. There were no snacks. Did he look like a woman?

"Look at you fresh-faced politicians in the making! Come in and sit down. Our first order of business is to bet on who will end up with the most gray hair and tarnished soul by January! That person will be one of our seniors and known as the Student Council President. An honor, I'm sure." He wasn't. He thought the president would be his minion.

"On October 2nd break out the invisibility tents because the parents are coming. You all are in charge of planning for it, and I'm told you also get to deal with the mess of Homecoming but we'll talk about your themes more next time." It wasn't like the decor mattered. Barney only ever showed to see all the teachers slutting up.

"So, let's get started! Who's betting on the winning power of nepotism?"

Cal Stephanides was absolutely tickled, brimming with a sort of boyish pride, as he got things set up for the meeting today. Their first one after what he felt was an incredibly successful first paper. He'd even printed out about a hundred extra just to have in the journalism room today. It was a paper! With his name as the editor! It was exciting!

And he might have been sneaking peeks at the kitten picture to melt over it every so often. What? He liked kittens.

There was, of course, donuts and coffee as well as a considerable representation made for tea (of course!)

"We did it!" Cal announced. "First edition without anything blowing up or going hideously wrong! Pat yourself on the back; pat someone else on the back, grab a caffeinated drink of your preference and let's do some chatting about how it turned out and how we can make it even better still."

This morning the students would be greeted by the sound of slowly played scales, as Mohinder picked out notes in a repeating rhythm that accelerated into an abrupt stop. "Humans have a audiable range of anywhere between twenty and twenty thousand Hertz. Usually," he added. "Now frequency is inverse to wavelength," Mohinder said, moving to the board behind him to start sketching out formulae.

"Sound is a compression wave through matter, and - if it's sinosoidal - we can define it by amplitude, spatial frequency and phase." Mohinder continued for a while describing velocity, modulation and standing waves.

"The musical instruments in front of you agitate and produce a range of pitch and frequencies while producing some very different sounds, and mathematics can be used to describe not just the sound they make but also the composition," said Mohinder, passing out handouts. "Try out some of your own compositions and rhythms."
