There were, of course, snacks and drinks set up for the members of the club today. Gavin would never fall down on that duty even if today's club was going to be a little...sillier than previous meetings.

"Hey guys, welcome back," he said, nodding at them all. "Today, we're going to be doing something a little different. Usually, we get into the flight sim, do some scenarios and that's that. We're not going to be in the flight sim today. Nope, today, we're going to be making paper airplanes."

Yes, that's right. There were reams of paper on the table next to the snacks and drinks.

"You guys might be the best pilots in the galaxy but I bet you never think about things like this, how to make a ship aerodynamic, what to fold, bend, and tear to make sure your plan flies the fastest and furthest. Sure, they're just paper but you never know when something might apply to real world flying."

Yes, paper airplanes.

"Go to it!"

Sam had woken up late, nearly lost Scout on his morning walk to him chasing after a teal deer, had to get his coffee made twice at the Perk for it to be right, and he was still smiling when he got to the library. It was possible he was still pleased from last night's radio broadcast.

"We've discussed how we can't make everyone happy," Nathan said. "Now let's discuss one of the reasons why. As leaders sometimes it is impossible for us to help everyone. We may want to, but we may lack the manpower, funds, or ability. We do the best we can, but that's just it: the best we can. Not the best there is.

"It's therefore necessary to prepare yourself for this. This is where your foundation of goals and values comes in. It will help you figure out what to do when none of the options available to you are pleasant ones."

Nathan handed out the class exercise. "Break up into your groups and talk about how you would handle this situation. There are no right or wrong answers, but there is no option where you can wave a wand and make everything okay.

"Here are your groups:Behind a cut to save the flist )

"I'm here if you have any questions," Nathan said.

"One of the traits used to describe something - or one - as living is the ability to reproduce, to pass on its traits to the next generation. Of course, it's not quite so simple," continued Mohinder, passing out notes, and listing the conventional definitions. "And members of a species missing traits - reproduction or reaction - are still considered alive."

"Now in larger, multicellular beings - including humans unless or until cloning takes some leaps forward - reproduction is usually conducted sexually." More handouts followed.

"As for asexual reproduction - cell fission becomes inpracticable for anything larger than a bacteria. Budding off of the parent is most often limited to plants, as is reproduction by spores. Parthogenesis is perhaps the most common, with bees, scorpions and even the rare shark forming without the intervention of a male parent. But any of these limits the capacity of the species to change, to adapt to a new world. It can lead to a precarious existance, lost when its world changes."
