"Kerrigan couldn't be here," River said, not quite managing to hide the worry she felt. "So today I will be your teacher." At least she felt she had a grasp of the subject.

The Danger Room was set up like bar, complete with holographic guests that kept talking in the background. "The subject of today's class is hand-to-hand combat," she continued, taking a few slow steps forward. "Useful in many situations. You might be threatened. Someone" - here she shot a glare at Lee - "might whine until your head hurts. A multitude of reasons, yet you have to chose the timing well. Know your own skills and your limits, as in all dangerous situations. Sometimes it's better to run." She smiled and stretched her arms out, spinning around. "Sometimes better to dance. In fact, it's like a dance. Sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow. That's not the important part. Just need to know which role you play in every moment. I lead. She grabbed one of the illusory guests and flung him across the floor. He stumbled to his feet, shouted something and launched himself at her. River moved close, then spun around and kicked his legs, making him lose his balance and once again sending him sprawling on the floor, gasping for air. "I follow. Elaborating the steps, impressing my partner."

She looked at the class. "I will demonstrate further." Turning around, she dropped her coat on the floor, and advanced towards the remaining bar guests.

When the last holographic victim lay on the floor, River turned again, raising an eyebrow. "You understand?"

Anemone arrived at the library extra-early today, in an attempt to make up for not opening it last week.  Yes, she'd been a butterfly,  but around here that really wasn't an excuse.

Today you might hear her off somewhere in the endless stacks of books, singing as she puts things away.  Gulliver's at the desk for all your basic needs.

The Danger Shop was white and sterile, like a laboratory – a likeness that was quickly confirmed by the lit-up "Aperture Laboratories" sign over a section of the seemingly blank wall.

"Good morning, everyone. Today for your final you'll be running a maze of sorts," He said motioning to the wall where a blue portal appears under the Aperture sign. "Before going through the portal, pick up a Portal Gun," Yondaime said as he picked up a large bulky, futuristic gun. "This gun is used to shoot out portals that you can cross into. Portals, in this case, are not used to switch between dimensions. Instead, they are used to move from one place to another on the same plane. Think of it as a shortcut between point A and point B. For example…" He shot a blue portal into the floor and then shot an orange one into the nearby wall. Stepping into the one on the floor, he came through the one on the wall. The class could probably see Yondaime step through the one on the wall as he disappeared into the one on the floor. It was kinda trippy.

"You'll need the portals in order to get through to the goal," he smiled and put down the gun. "You'll each start the maze in a different spot; you can work together if you find each other. There are some things to look out for in the maze; there is a furnace, air duct fans and security robots so always look before you leap. Also, you'll probably hear a computer voice talking to you as you go through the maze. Take anything she says with a grain of salt. Now go to it." He said motioning them into the maze.

As each student passed through the portal, he or she appeared in a different location around the facility, with a suddenly-closing orange portal behind them. The rooms were the same sterile white, with a few small window-like openings in the plain walls.

"Welcome to the Aperture Science Enrichment Center," A computerized female voice said, coming from no discernable source. "Your participation is…appreciated. Please take note that the fully charged portal gun in your possession is highly advanced technology, and is worth more than the sum total of-" her voice changed slightly, "-insert subject hometown here."

The voice reverted to its normal flat tones. "Use portals to complete the experiment. When you win, there will be cake."

"Hola, tiny children," Robin said, filing her nails and looking bored from where she was perched on the edge of a desk in the perfectly normal looking classroom. "Big thank you to Brooke for covering class last week. I'm sure you guys aren't all entirely unfamiliar with the whole changing-into-an-animal thing; anyone who makes a joke about the fact that I changed into a female dog gets a detention. Not because it's not funny. It's just already been done."

She got up, stretched, and started passing out papers. "So, since I was a dog and my player is still SUPREMELY out of it thanks to jetlag and all and I didn't have time to work on lesson plans or whatever, we have an easy class today. I want to see what you learned about messing with authority. You're each getting in trouble for something -- each of these papers has a scenario on it. Pretend I'm the arresting officer, and tell me why you don't deserve it. For this exercise, let's all assume you were found guilty. You failed your breathalyzer, you parked in a fire zone, you really did break your curfew -- whatever. Your job is to get out of the violation, however you can. Whatever it is, it's not about whether you did it or not -- it's why. Play to my sympathies, or use what you have to your advantage. Make me want to retract it."

She cleared her throat once all the papers were out. "And um, I'm not good at this, but you guys were a really good class. Like, I hate kids, and you guys didn't make me hate Tuesdays. Well done, guys. If you come in on Thursday, your first round's on me, okay? I would've brought booze today but I'd rather not get fired when I'm so close to actually finishing my first teaching gig, you know?"

John was staring at a newspaper as the students filed in. "Good morning," he said, though his attention seemed elsewhere still.

He shook himself and focused on them. "Today, being our last class, your assignment is to do a tune up on your respective cars. That could involve any or all of the things you've learned." He gave a faint smile. "Let's see how well you've learned your lessons, shall we?"
