The stacks of bandages on the desks probably made this workshop topic obvious. Mohinder picked up one of the rolls and twisted the ends in his fingers.

"Blood and broken bones are some of the most obvious signs of injuries. Not that internal bleeding can't be life threatening, but that's a problem requiring more medical intervention." He glanced around the classroom, before continuing, "I'm sure you've experienced minor injuries, where the blood loss stops automatically," and going on to describe bandaging techniques.

"Bones can be broken in a simple or compound fracture," Mohinder described the possibilities. "And, depending on the site and complexity of the break, they can take months and medical intervention to fully repair, where something as simple as a broken nose will heal on its own. With broken arms or legs splinting and immobilising the limb is the first step," he summarised.

"Now try it for yourselves."

This afternoon the class would have noticed that the Doctor was nowhere in sight. The more observant would also have noticed that the Danger Shop was set up in an unholy combination of space-age tiki bar and seraglio with Seely leaning against the bar chatting to one of the many scantily-clad, brightly-coloured patrons.

He straightened when he saw the class. "I'm afraid that the Doctor can't be here today," he said. "And I couldn't make sense of his lesson plan, so instead of going to a Welsh gravel quarry, we're going to be doing something a little more exotic."

He grinned broadly as he gestured around the room. "As anyone whose ever watched Galaxy Quest or Space Battles knows, the universe is full of places like this, and people like these, so you're going to practice dealing with the natives. They're very friendly, so it shouldn't be hard."

"Insurmountable odds," Murdock spoke seriously as he paced around the Danger Shop. "That's what we'll be covering today. According to some records, depending upon which Earth history you go by, there was a large-scale invasion by an alien race. Their goal was to strip the planet of all resources. After they slaughtered all the inhabitants, of course."

"The only thing available to fight back with was much less superior technologically to the invading race's craft. In this instance, F/A-18 Hornets went up against a mess of alien attack vessels. The Earth fighters had to rely on skill more than their firepower as the alien ships were equipped with high-energy weapons and shields which the Earth weapons could not penetrate."

"However, it was discovered that the alien crafts could be compromised using a computer program. Something called a virus," he shrugged. "Don't know much about them myself, but apparently it did the trick, making the alien craft vulnerable to the fighters' weapons."

"Except for the larger scale invasion craft. Torpedoes had little effect against the thick hull of the destroyers. The only weak spot was the vessel's main weapon, which was only accessible as the craft made ready to fire. One shot," he held up a finger, "was all that was needed to take them out. The trick was surviving long enough for that to happen."

"For today, we're going to re-live that scenario. You'll have to rely on your own skills and those of your squadron mates to take out as many fighters as possible until the larger vessel is destroyed. Good luck!"

Logan walked into the Danger Shop right after everyone else was settled. "You've had those poker chips for two weeks. First things first, let's see if you actually made any improvement with them. And while you're doing that, tell me something you learned from the karate movie."

After that activity it was time for the actual class to start. "Today we're gonna be combining a few of the skills we've worked on over the past few weeks. Since we're currently in a part of the world that's nothing but beach, we're gonna make sand castles. Three groups this time. First group is the people who are gonna make the sand castles. You're working on your creative skills. Second group is people trying to knock the sand castles down. You're working on strategy and physical skills. Third group is people protecting the sand castles. You're working on defensive skills."

"Attackers, you can do whatever you want to knock the castles down, but remember: if you hurt anyone, you're in trouble. Defenders, no pre-emptive strikes. When an attack comes, either get in its way or get something else in its way. Castle builders, no fighting back. Just keep on building your castle. Think like an ant. If it gets knocked over, just go to work getting it back together again."
