"If you have learned your lessons well from me, you may, some day, in future, be ready to purchase your first home. Do not do as a positively ridiculous number of people have done lately and buy a home you cannot afford. The bank will take your house and your credit will be in the toilet. Never ever buy a home without a down payment, or I will find you, wherever you are, and I will smack sense into you. Usually, your down payment should be at least twenty percent of the home's price, so, remember that. I have prepared for you two packets. One is on real estate in general, and is a bit technical, but provides a good grounding. Some people can make quite a bit of money in real estate--generally, it is a good investment, if you are not buying things you cannot afford and then the bottom drops out of the value. It makes sense: if you purchase a home and rent it to someone, their rent pays the mortgage, and then when you sell the home the profit goes into your pockets.

"The second packet is on buying a home. Learn this for now, but I have no doubt you will all forget much of what I have taught you the moment the final bell rings for summer, so. Keep this packet. Put it in a folder somewhere. When the time comes for you to buy that house, take it out and commit it to memory, use your own common sense, and I hope believe you will do fine.

"Your assignment for today is to look through these local real estate listings, find a home that suits you, and figure out how much of a down payment you would need. As that is fairly simple math, for extra credit you may also figure out how much annual income you would need, assuming a 30-year fixed mortgage at 5.5 percent interest. Any questions?

Vala was nowhere to be seen as the class entered, but there was a DVD player and television hooked up, along with a note.

"Enjoy watching the movie, and we'll discuss theocracies and religious oppression next week.

P.S.: Evey, it's set up, so all you need to do is press play, and there's popcorn and sodas in the back.

P.P.S.: You also have my permission to keep order in any way you need to, short of drawing blood or electrocution."

Glitch was at the front of class, as always.

Today, though, there would be an actual lecture, and he was ready with his notes.

Lecture within )

Sam had stopped at J,GOB and the Perk on his way to the library this morning. It was the start of another week already, and he was trying very hard to not think about how they were all one week closer to summer now.

In class today there were puppies.

Well, one puppy with an odd glowy eye, a deaf wolf, and a weetiny fox.

But they were all adorable.

"Good morning kids! Today we are learning about drug sniffing dogs." A beat. "And fox."

Which was totally used by law enforcement officials, shut up.

"Now, I have hidden drugs somewhere in this room and these intrepid animals are going to show you just how incredible their sense of smell is." He looked down at them all, nodding seriously. "Go find the drugs!"

...

They all just sat there, hoping for treats. Except for Max, who started to groom her tail.

"Damn it. I knew I shoulda stolen real ones."

"We're going back around the world," Ghanima announced without preamble as the students arrived, "Back to Europe, and slightly north, past England and its stodgy weather to the madmen of Ireland.  If you need a good story, there's no better land for myth than Éire."

"Looking over the two handouts of the story, I'd like you to pair up and discuss why this particular story is usually classified as myth by scholars, and if you see any parallels to other myths we've studied.  Begin."

"Oh, and for those of you last week who actually turned in the homework?"  Ghanima gestured to a basket sitting on her desk.  "Please have your promised cookies.  Enjoy!"

[OOC:  Please wait for the OCD to wander by has take a seat.  Go for it!  No teal deer were harmed in the making of this production.  *headdesk*]

"Today I get to bitch about talk about the Twelve," Biff said with a slightly predatory gleam to his eyes. "Of course, there were fifteen of us, when you add in me, Josh, and Maggie." He frowned. "Who wasn't a harlot and I have no idea how that rumor got started. Probably her ex-husband."

He shrugged. "Anyone, the fourteen of us were in charge of logistics and security for Josh's events. As you might've guessed, that boy was a security nightmare. After the Sermon on the Mount--and if you think that was just off the top of his head, you're out of your mind--the apostles split up to spread the Word of the Messiah and Josh and I stayed out of the public eye for a little while."

Biff grinned. "Your activity today is to go forth and preach as the apostles did, heal the sick, and bring the good news that, frankly, not a lot of fairly important people were eager to hear. The computer will generate a number of scenarios that the apostles encountered. And you, lucky, lucky you, get to be one of the apostles. That's also been randomly assigned."

And lo, the list did appear )
