doubleohblonde: (Bond is in the room)

When the students arrived at the Danger Shop, they would have seen that it was set up as an auto repair shop. There was a stack of handouts by the door.

"Good afternoon," Bond said after everyone had arrived. "Before we begin, I would like to take a moment to assure those of you who were unaviodably detained and missed class last week, that there is no work that you need to catch up on. Now, moving onto the class proper, today's handouts give instructions for some of the more common do-it yourself-car repairs."

He gestured around the room as he continued. "The cars in the simulation have been programmed with the faults requiring said repairs. I would like you all to split up and attempt to work through as many of the repairs as you are able. I would advise that you start with the smaller and easier repairs, and work your way up to the more difficult ones."

After what seemed like far too long without a library shift- probably because it had been, from his point of view- Bridge makes sure to arrive a little early to open the library for the day.

"After last week, I figure you're all a little sick of eye-to-eye." Kerrigan was smiling faintly as she said it, but there was a hint of something a little more genuine behind that expression-- maybe a little disappointed, or resigned. "So we're going to take to the skies. The Wraith is going to be your baby - or should I say, babies - today. I won't bother you with the controls-- this is all about getting yourself familiar with the basics of space superiority battle."

The Danger Shop lit up for a moment, and then all that was there was space, little stars dotting the lack-of-horizon. Something invisible played the part of floor beneath their feet, showing nothing more than further distance. An image of the Wraith appeared, as if out of nowhere, in said space.

"The Wraith is a high-speed fighter ship. The key to space superiority is speed, first of all-- but if that's got your interest, you'll have to join Engineering. The second key point is maneuverability, and that's what we're working on today. In today's simulation, three Wraiths," and the image triplicated itself, "Are at each of your disposal. It's your job to outmaneuver your enemy and blast them out of the sky."

She ran a hand through her hair. "One of the basic strategies is harassing your enemy-- deploying small bursts of fire to critically wound them before getting out of range for another pass. Don't stick to your target too long. As long as you can see them, they can probably see you..."

A smirk. "Barring any cloaking devices, of course..."

Jean-Paul was sitting at his desk glaring at his laptop with a vaguely 'wtf are they getting up to up there?' expression on his face. When the students arrived he said, distractedly, "Bonjour. There are handwavey handouts of French Canadian swears on your desk. You did not get them from me. Enjoy."

They met in a classroom this week instead of the Danger Shop. John was waiting for them, leaning against the desk at the front of the room.

"I apologize for lack of a class last week," he said. "Unfortunately, I was in New York City -- in 1930 -- at the time. And I know some of you were equally displaced.

"Which brings us to today's topic. The events of last week are exactly the kind of thing I'm hoping this class will help to better prepare you to deal with. Not that I would have predicted stone angels that send people into the past, but that's part of the weirdness -- it's going to be weirder than anything you could predict.

"What I'd like to do today is review what everyone went through and how they dealt with it, what you felt you did right and anything you'd do differently in hindsight." He smiled briefly. "Look at it as a debriefing of sorts.

"Feel free to ask each other's questions, or challenge each other's conclusions, but remember one thing -- we all got through it more or less intact and we all found our way home. That means that even if whatever decisions were made weren't the best possible ones, they were right."

He looked around. "So who wants to go first?"

Class was being held in the danger shop today. The floor was springy, bouncy even, and had a number of large circles drawn on it in white paint.

Along one wall were a number of inflatable sumo suits.

"Today we are going to look at resolving a conflict through physical means. There is a long history of resolving disagreements in this way, such as duelling and trial by combat. Trial by combat did, in some circumstances, permit the use of champions, to fight on behalf of the accused. Interestingly enough, there's a school of thought that believes the modern legal system is just a slightly more civilised version of trial by combat, with barristers as the champions."

Harriet shook her head. "Having known a number of barristers in my time, I'm not so sure I agree with 'more civilised'. Nevertheless, today we are going try out our own version of conflict resolution by physical means." She swept a hand at the suits. "Sumo wrestling. Suit up, find a partner, and pick a ring. The first person to force the other out of the ring is the winner."

"Sorry about the lack of meetings the past couple weeks," Peter said when everyone who was going to show up had shown up. "I think we can all agree that the world's been nuts. So let's turn that into news."

There was, of course, pastries and coffee for eating and drinking, respectively.

"Good morning, class," said Steve. "Today's topic is the European Renaissance. There were a number of very interesting social and academic aspects to the Renaissance, involving a return to 'classical' values, but we are as always interested in the art )
