Fandom Invasions Class #9 (Week 10)

They met in a classroom this week instead of the Danger Shop. John was waiting for them, leaning against the desk at the front of the room.

"I apologize for lack of a class last week," he said. "Unfortunately, I was in New York City -- in 1930 -- at the time. And I know some of you were equally displaced.

"Which brings us to today's topic. The events of last week are exactly the kind of thing I'm hoping this class will help to better prepare you to deal with. Not that I would have predicted stone angels that send people into the past, but that's part of the weirdness -- it's going to be weirder than anything you could predict.

"What I'd like to do today is review what everyone went through and how they dealt with it, what you felt you did right and anything you'd do differently in hindsight." He smiled briefly. "Look at it as a debriefing of sorts.

"Feel free to ask each other's questions, or challenge each other's conclusions, but remember one thing -- we all got through it more or less intact and we all found our way home. That means that even if whatever decisions were made weren't the best possible ones, they were right."

He looked around. "So who wants to go first?"

and what you think you did right or could have done better

Savannah looked uncomfortable. "I ended up in 1923 Cairo... I uhm... I accidentally got a very good friend trapped with me... " It was obvious that she still felt very guilty about that.

Johnny gave her a soft smile when she looked at him, hoping to make her feel better.

It did help and Savannah smiled back, hoping that he knew how much she was glad he was here.

"I just got this creepy feeling from the first statue that I saw, so I, um, kind of stayed indoors until the whole thing was over," said Hoshi.

"I went with one of the away teams," Meg said. "I think I did alright. Didn't die or anything."

"I think that was pretty brave of you," Savannah said quietly.

"Thanks," Meg said, smiling. "I'm glad to see you guys got back alright. I would have flipped out if I had gotten sent to the past."

"I mostly hated being away from everyone I cared about... and the lack of technology was frustrating." She smiled. "I'm glad you had a hand in getting us back."

"Thanks," Meg said again, looking down. "I'm usually useless in those types of situations. I liked being able to help."

"Says who," Savannah demanded.

"Well, nobody said it," Meg said. If they did she'd probably smack them one. Only she's allowed to call herself useless. "It just felt like that way, that's all."

"You're not, Meg," Savannah said firmly.

Meg smiled again. "I'm slowly beginning to realize that."

"I'll keep telling you if you like."

Meg laughed. "Next time I doubt myself you're allowed to tell me all you want."

Savannah grinned, looking a little more like her old self.

"Consider it done," she promised.

"I kept to the air when I could, checked in with all important people, researched in multiple sources, went with one of the away teams to find more information, and didn't act rashly," he said. Which were the good things.

"I didn't bring a weapon on the away trip, I experimented with something I really should have considered longer, I lost my temper, and I let my emotions make me lose my head a couple of times," he finished, which were the bad things.

"Who did you consider an important person?" Luke asked.

"My family," he said plainly, "and those who were organizing things. I made sure to keep abreast of that."

"You have family here too?" Luke asked.

He shook his head.

"Not in the sense I'm pretty sure you mean. I don't have that anywhere. Adopted. A professor and a handful of students."

"Oh," Luke said with a little frown. "Okay."

Luke kept the line between friends and family pretty firmly drawn.

As did Liir. It was simply drawn in a different way that had nothing to do with blood (since he didn't know whose he might share anyway) and everything to do with choice. Everyone he called family had made it explicitly clear they were, that they accepted it and wanted it. The words had been spoken.

Liir simply nodded.

"I was here. I didn't do anything."

"But you didn't get caught. That's something, at least," pointed out Hoshi.

"I ended up in 1933 Chicago," Andros said, he hesitated briefly because he hated admitting that he had done something wrong, "I didn't seek the statues out but I thought I could still manage to avoid them, if I could have done better I wouldn't have made that assumption,"

"What if we don't feel like talking?" Not that Ino had any issues really, she was just feeling like being contrary today.

"I helped to lead the statues to where they needed to be led to stop them."

when he pings in

Luke was there, looking very serious.

Who has his own thoughts about what he did right and could have done better last week...

Apologies for slightly lame class -- am home sick and my creativity is sluggish at best
