Ares grinned at his class. "Now that you've gotten your feet wet, I feel we should take a step back, and allow you all to get an idea of what's considered high couture in the fashion world, so I've found a little recent documentary for you all to study."

It wasn't quite a documentary, and it was over a decade old, but Ares figured that none of them would be able to figure out the difference, plus messing with them was fun.

"And I'll hope that you take its lessons to heart for next week's class." Yes, that was laughter he was suppressing, they should probably be afraid. Very, very afraid.

"Greetings!" Tim said as he bounded into the shop. "Today we're going to focus on building loft beds. There are several different styles, from bunk beds to loft beds that raise the sleeping area so you can put a couch or desk underneath to double lofts where you and the roommie are both at the same height, and they all involve being higher up, so be careful. Make sure you measure twice and cut once...and make sure that you can sit upright in the bed without smacking your head on the ceiling or the bunk above you," he said, rubbing his head in memory.

"Bunk beds and lofts are great to free up floor space for other things, like a widescreen TV and console games." Or to build a fort.

He went through the several types of lofts, how to use the table saw and the drill, how to measure and follow the plans, and quickly assembled a loft bed as a demonstration. Granted, it was pre-cut and pre-drilled, and when Tim forgot to tighten the bolts after he finished, it returned to being pre-assembled.

Directly outside the classroom so Josh could keep an eye on it while he taught was a table covered in bunting.

The ballot box? Also covered in bunting.

Josh was a bunting kind of guy.

There names on the ballot who might not necessarily remember signing up. Computer glitches were fun that way. Go ahead and complain if you must: it won't change Josh's mind.

The Democratic Process was in action, after all and tampering with a ballot Wasn't Done.

"As handwavily promised, today we have our first test of the semester," Josh said, then took huge gulps from his mug of coffee. "I'm sure you're all thrilled. If you're not, well, fake it."

He stood up from his desk, exposing the kilt he'd chosen to wear (for absolutely no reason) and handed the test papers to Donna Lana to pass out.

Exam! )

Aly was dressed is loose-fitting clothes as she watched her class file into the Danger Shop.  It was set up to look like the salle she knew in the palace at Rajmuat which meant lots of white stone, copper fittings, and, incongruously, blue mats.

"What we're doing today," she said once everyone was assembled, "is some basic hand to hand.  A lot of you already will know the basics, I'm aware, so what I'd like you to do today is pair up with others who may be less experienced and help them out."

She gestured to Zuko to come up to help her demonstrate.  "First we're going to look at some pretty basic defences against someone grabbing you."  Aly grinned at Zuko and, obviously using a good amount of care, demonstrated the techniques.  "The other moves to cover today is a very simple hip and body throw."  She demonstrated two varieties on Zuko and possibly looked awfully amused at doing it.

"Okay, obviously this type of thing isn't enough to teach you how to defend yourself in every possible situation," Aly said turning to the class.  "And quite a few of you already know far more than that.  What I want you to do whether you're new to the idea of hand to hand or if you've done it for years is to pay a lot of attention to your and your partner's center of balance and the leverage you're using to throw them off their balance.  Pay attention to it, talk about why it works, and even more so, talk about how else you can use someone's sense of balance against them."

"Any questions?"

"Afternoon, everyone," Peter said with a nod to the assembled students.  "This is first meeting for fencing, so I thought we could just chat about our previous experiences and then perhaps spar a bit if people like."

"I can start.  If you don't know me, I'm Peter Pevensie.  I'm a senior.  I ran the Fencing Club last year with Hamlet, and I've been learning swordwork since I was about 12 in my country of Narnia.  I fight with a longsword and a shield generally."

Upon entering the classroom today, the students would find their regular teacher slumped over his desk. He might be hitting his head on the desk on occasion.

(If any of the kids ask, it was my evil sexy twin.)

Which they'd totally buy. And it not...

(Or change the subject to how much I love pie.)

There we go!

"Change of plans today kids. We'll be learning about an application of modern feminism today. One I know nuns fully support!" He stood, pulling down the projector screen and fiddled with the remote for a bit before getting a short movie to play for the class.

After it was over he grinned brightly at them. "And now we'll try practicing this as well!"

Where exactly he found the pole was anyone's guess. How exactly it hadn't been noticed before this... Call it a plot hole. He sure did.

"So! Who's first?"
