[Media Studies & Communication: Week 11, 5th Period]
Monday, March 19th, 2007 01:48 am"Hey guys" Logan greeted the class as they took their seats, giving a handouts to each student. "Today we'll be looking at sterotypes." He moved to the front of the classroom, picking up his coffee mug for a sip before continuing.
"Unsurprisingly, stereotypes are something used quite a bit in popular media, in advertising. You'll hear a lot of people say stereotypes are bad, but why is that? Is there any reason they might be useful?"
Logan spread his hands, looking at the class curiously. "I don't doubt a lot of you have been identified as being part of a stereotype at one point or another, whether true or not. So here's an exercise as well; name the stereotype you believe you are closest to - or one of them, if there's multiple - and identify at least one way each that someone might use the appearance of that stereotype in a good way and a bad way, either to assume something about you specifically or the group you belong to in general."
