Rory wandered into the library sleepily with her laptop, and curled up behind the desk.

Seely grinned at people as they came into the meeting.

"Alright fellows," he said, rubbing his hands together. "With the help of Alec and Kawalsky here, we've of we've come up with an idea for a little fund-raising activity, and while nothing's set in stone yet, I think it could be a lot of fun for all involved. Only problem is, we're going to need to get some of the girls on side. Which is going to take skill, charm and a little luck, but I'm sure you guys have that in spades. Since, like I said, thing's are still on the drawing board at the moment, so all I'm looking for at this point is people willing to talk to the girls and get them involved once things get rolling. If you think that's you, come and put your name down."

"In the meantime, there's pizza."

"Hello there!" The man was dressed in an open-collared white shirt and slacks. "I was meant to be here a few weeks ago, when your teacher had to leave, but my boat ride here was side tracked. That seems to happen to me a lot. I'm the Professor, and I'll be your substitute this week.

Applied science is a fine discipline. Science is a wonderful thing, and to apply it to real life situations is something I've found to be very handy over the years.

At the front here, you'll find all the supplies you would normally find on a small, deserted island. Coconuts, pieces of shipwreck, basic electrical supplies and natural materials. Consider yourselves stranded. Now use your knowledge of basic science, and your ingenuity, to build something that will help yourself and your fellow castaways during your island stay. I'm here if anyone needs any help."

[OOC: Feel free to mod the contents of the box, but keep it simple and as believeable as the supplies were on Gilligan's Island.]

For those who were just coming in, the lab appeared to be empty. Except, that is, until a loud bang and a puff of smoke appeared from behind one of the benches.

Coughing and waving his wee muppety hands to be rid of the smoke, the odd little man appeared at the front of the classroom. His wild-haired friend did too.

"Mee-mee-mee-meeep!"

"Yes, yes, I see now that there was too much silver nitrate involved." Then he saw the class. "Oh, hello! I'm Doctor Bunsen Honeydew and this is my assistant Beaker."

"Meep."

"Normally we work at Muppet Labs producing the finest in modern technology, but today your Professor Frizzle is away and we're here to fill in her fine, scientific shoes."

Beaker lifted one leg up at an anatomically impossible angle and put it on the counter to emphasize the point.

Doctor Honeydew continued. "Today, children, we are learning about the layers of the Earth. Your handout will show you all of the various layers that make up this wonderful planet of ours with all different types of rocks. This is a practical class, so instead of reading some wonderful, environmentally-safe paper handouts, today you're going to use clay to build your very own model planet!"

There was coffee, pastries, tea and cider for the students as they settled in for class today. Wilson had a refill of coffee from this morning's staff meeting and was at the chalk board writing something out.

As soon as everyone was settled, he turned and walked to the front of the desk.

"Okay, first off I wanted to remind you all to have a wonderful break next week and that we won't be having class. Please, use the break to work on your papers that I outlined at the beginning of the course. If you still don't have a book or work to use for this project, see me after class and I'll help you find something on the syllabus you might be interested in writing about."

Sipping his coffee he set it down on the desk and then crossed his arms.

"Need vs Greed. What is the motivating factor in applying your gift? Do you do it out of altruistic designs, because you feel you have a calling and that you need to help people and the world around you? Or is this gift your meal ticket? Pay me the right amount of compensation and I'll help you?"

Smiling a little ruefully, Wilson shifted slightly against the front of the desk.

"I know in my own profession, it seems to be either or but...what do you think? Is there a balance? Should there be a balance or would it be better if it was one or the other?"

Pushing himself up onto the desk, he leaned forward and lead the class into their discussion on the day's topic.

As the class entered, they would have noticed that El had somehow managed to set up a projector, a PS2, and two DDR pads

Chances are? He had a looooooot of help.

"I decided to drop the syllabus today and have a fun day," El said. "Everyone, this is DDR. A video game about dancing. I'm sure you've seen it before in arcades and such. Who wants to go first? I'll challenge whoever wants to try me."

[[Tough school day. Must put up lazy phoned in class. To compensate, I offer the image of Antonio Banderas DDR-ing.]]

Honor stood at the front of the classroom, dressed a little differently than per her normal. The Royal Manticoran Navy uniform or casual khakis had been exchanged for a long, flowing white dress, over which she wore a vest of teal green. It was the same green that her bodyguard, Andrew LaFollet wore with his uniform, recognized on her homeworlds as “Harrington green.” The vest, like her uniform, had been reinforced to protect her from Nimitz’s scimitar-shaped claws, and the treecat was perched on her shoulder in his usual position, watching the students as they filed in. Around her neck, she wore two medals – the Star of Grayson and her Steadholder’s Key. She folded her arms across her chest and waited for the students to settle in.

“Okay, ladies and gentlemen,” she said, 'let's be about it...' )“I apologize for the length of the lecture, but it really is pertinent background for our trip. Please take the time to review your handouts. I’ll be available after class, if you have any questions, and please feel free to contact me to set up office hours if needed.” She smiled. “Until next meeting – dismissed.”

[OOC: Apologies for the long lecture. More info on the trip to come, if I can get it organized. If not, we'll be discussing the Grayson-Masada war next class. A couple of OCD threads coming up. And the links should be working now. I hope. ::thwacks LJ::]

Rory was curled up in the back as per usual, and typing away. As usual.

Having sent a *handwavey* e-mail to everyone that Self-Defense was meeting early, Parker made sure the mats were laid out, and that nacho dip and chips and drinks were on a nearby table. She raised one sardonic eyebrow as people filed in.

"Hey. Alanna's sick, still. Or at least really not up to sparring with you guys. So she asked me to fill in, at least on getting you set up. Mr. Winchester might be a little late, he has office hours before this." She smirked. "Just be glad I'm not usually in charge of this club."

She went through a few Aikido moves-- the first four throws, holds, and breaking of the same-- pointing out that many Japanese police officers are required to learn some Yoshinkan Aikido in the performance of their job.

"Pair up, and see how these techniques work for you."

[ocd going up. Parker knows Aikido. I don't.]

Josh stood up on the stage, looking distinctly uncomfortable.

It wasn't like someone had given him a microphone and an audience in a while. Not since the whole "secret plan to fight inflation" thing, anyway.

"Welcome to the first game show at Fandom High," he read from his cue card. "Where the questions are just as cracked out as the school." He raised an eyebrow. "Huh. Today we will be vying teachers against students for bragging rights and pie from Jeff, God of Biscuits. The game will be divided into three sections--much like the US government--though the students will be overrepresented because they know that the teachers at this school will kick their butts otherwise with their superior wit and guile."

Josh grinned. "Let the games begin!"

[OOC: Please wait for the truly excessive OCD Have at it! And yes, I'm insane.]
