When they students enter the Danger Shop, the find themselves on the edges of a swamp at night. John, as usual, was leaning against the parked Impala waiting for them.

''This is Laveau Swamp. It has a little infestation problem right now. Of zombies.'' )

Week 10 -- November 15: Neptune, the blue world

Syllabus | Class Roster

Handouts:
Starmaps: North | South | East | West | Overhead

Surprise, surprise, it's more Holst playing today, "Neptune, the Mystic." Ellie waited until everyone took their seats and began the lecture. Neptune is the eighth and outermost planet in our solar system. )

After Ellie finished up the lecture, she said, "Now, for those of you who did not give presentations last week -- that would be all but two of you -- this is your last chance to do so, or you'll get a 0 for that part of the course."

The computer lab's lights were darkened as the students entered today and the desks were spread out so it was harder for the kids to talk. Each desk was equipped with totally moddable snacks.

"Today we're going to be chatting in chatrooms." Abby said, walking to the center of the room to give a short lecture about the history of chatrooms. "I want you guys to be able to chat effectively, so I'm not going to be taking up too much of your time with lecturing. Also, I'm making this an open chatroom, so besides random strangers...other students could sign in and talk as well. Just remember that when you're talking about hooking up for something kinky."

[ooc: Seriously, any characters can play in the chat thread. The more the merrier!! OCD up, play away!]

"Today we're going to talk about planning a fundraising event," Josh said, pacing around the room as he sipped from his mug of coffee. "The most important thing to remember is that the entire point of a fundraising event is to raise money. You might have the greatest idea for a party in the history of history, but if it costs you more than you made, it's stupid. Also, you're normally tossing these things together with at most two weeks' lead time, so they have to be realistic."

Oooh. Party planning with a purpose! )

Josh sat down. "Okay. Work together and plan me a party. Decide how many people you'd invite, how much you'd charge, and what kind of thing it would be. Bonus points if you don't serve chicken or chili."

"The rush has worn off from the election results," Josh said as he passed around sheets of paper, "which means that it is time for your much-delayed midterm examination."

Cut for test questions! )

"Questions? Pleas for understanding, or possible attempts to throw yourself at me in the hopes that I'll find mercy?" Josh shrugged. "I'm here for it all."

Vader stalked into the classroom precisely on time--he was anal-retentive that way--and slammed the door shut.

"Today we begin with a discussion of the Seven Deadly Sins," he growled, holding up a hand and counting the first three off, "beginning with pride, gluttony, and envy. Why do you think these would be considered so deadly? Do you think of yourself being particularly attracted to any of these...vices?" He crossed his arms over his chest and looked around the classroom. "Discuss."

The Danger Shop was set up today to look like a chamber in a Chinese palace, which left Janice looking ridiculously out of place (well, more so than usual) in her leather jacket, fedora, and khakis.

Not that this stopped her from sitting cross-legged in the center of the low table, a large book in her lap. Inexplicably, a pile of stone rabbits was on the floor in front of her.

"We're going pretty far east today," she told the class once they'd all arrived. "To China, that is, in case you couldn't tell."

Tapping the book in her lap, she held it up. "Some of you may have heard of the Tao Te Ching. You may be under the impression that it was written by Lao Tzu. You'd be wrong; it was actually written by his wife, Lao Ma. Lao Tzu himself, a vicious tyrant, was too ill, and his wife ruled in his name. She also wrote this book under his name to save his reputation. What does this have to do with this class? 'Hang on, I'm getting to that.' )

[OOC: Class Info Post. Class open for play throughout the weekend, as always. OCD is up. Have at!]
