"I decided to drop the syllabus today and have a fun day," El said. "Everyone, this is DDR. A video game about dancing. I'm sure you've seen it before in arcades and such. Who wants to go first? I'll challenge whoever wants to try me."

Billy has never been to an arcade. Well not since the 80's and that was actually a training center for the Cobra Youth.

"I've never heard of this." he said. "How's it work?"

El? Suprisingly good at DDR.

Lana tried it out and was better than she'd thought she'd be.

Willow tried it out and thought it was a great deal of fun, even if she wasn't perfect at it right away.

Nadia is biting her lip in concentration and she slowly works out how the game works.

Then the arrows start to come faster.

And the game starts booing her.

Billy took a few tries to get the hang of it. But once he memorized just where the pads were, he started doing pretty well.

Sam did okay, once she figured out the program and could predict ahead of time where to put her feet. What music? It was all one big math problem to her.

He's in a good mood. He might even respond.

"That? Totally isn't really dancing," Nadia grumbled in El's general direction as she lost again.

"Oh? How do you define 'real dancing', then?" El asked.

"Doing more than just stomping on arrows when something tells you to. There's no . . . soul!"

"Oh, soul is something you add yourself. It isn't something inherent in the steps. It's in the music."

Nadia raised an eyebrow and gestured to the pads. "How are you supposed to put soul into something when you're busy trying to track flourescent arrows across the screen and the game is making fun of you?"

El, in a very rare moment, laughed. "Having trouble with the game, I take it?"

"No, it's just not dancing!" Nadia might have pouted.

Stupid Faulkner paper/film project/teaching project/Keats and Byron paper.

Antonio Banderas DDRing . . . OH MY BRAIN.

It is nigh impossible not to look like a total goofball when one plays DDR.
