[OOC: Today's class is largely just for me to get used to trying to summarize a Police Squad! episode. The next few classes will be using episode plots as a "What would you do?" type of case study. But since work will be kicking my ass today, this is mostly just a lecture. If there is any discussion, Rory will be handling it. Otherwise, take notes, pass notes, the usual. Class Info Post.]

The Tick was at the front of the class as usual when the students walked in. Behind him, drawn on the white board, was a complicated flowchart detailing a crime. Lockheed was drinking coffee on his usual shelf.

"Hello, class! First, a reminder: Don't forget to give your essays to Rory on Thursday."

"Today we're going to start a series of classes on real cases from the files of an elite crimefighting force called Police Squad. The main officer in Police Squad is Sergeant Frank Drebin, Detective Lieutenant." The Tick checked his notes. "Yes, that is apparently his rank. It's definitely a unique unit, I suppose."

When the students come into their Arthurian Traditions Class for Tuesday, they are greeted by this woman ). Niether Camulus, nor Phoebe are anywhere to be seen.

On the board behind the desk is written:

"... there must be a reason why the typical textbook overlooks the woman warrior ninety-nine percent of the time, and creates instead a corrupt history, whether of samurai society or castle life in medieval Europe, that is grotesquely false in its portrait of absent or subservient women."

- Jessica Amanda Salmonson, The Encyclopedia of Amazons

After all of the students and groupies are inside the classroom, the strange woman locks the door and pushes something in front of it to barricade it.

When she gets to the library, Angela is pleased to see her gifts for the other aides have been delivered and are beautiful as expected.

She props herself on a stool behind the counter and starts listening to a playlist of the most romantic songs she knows on her iPod, because she's a sap like that.

The library is open for business.

[OOC: Angela-mun is now offline for the night.]

The PA system speakers emit a low hum and then a pop as the system switches on; Zordon's monotone can be heard all over campus.

"Will the following teenager with attitude please report to the Command Center as promptly as possible:

Aeryn Sun.

That will be all. Thank you."

With a pop and a fading hum, the PA system shuts off again.

Kiki has, as always, provided the class with coffee and muffins, so please help yourself. Professor Chaucer greets the class and begins as soon as everyone is seated.

We have a lot of material to cover today, because we'll be discussing both your assigned reading and a new poetic form that you'll be using for your next writing assignment.

Professor Chaucer is in his office. He looks a little tired, and might be snoozing behind the geography book he's reading.

[ooc: Mun is also very tired, and wishes snoozing behind a book were an option. May be slow in responding.]

Daniel is clearly lost in thought today, but he manages to notice his students come in.

The TV which is normally in the corner has been pulled out, and there's soda and a small selection of snacks at the front.

"Right. Sorry for last week class. My former employees still like for me to do some consulting for them, and they needed me unexpectedly.

Today, we're going to start off by watching a video, which is going to show a lot of what we've been talking about these past few weeks, with archaeological methods.

Help yourself to the snacks, by the way."

He dims the lights, and they settle in to watch the video.

At the end of the video, Daniel puts another in.

"This one will be taking us to our next discussion topic - archaeology and the media"

After that one has finished, he raises the lights and turns back to the class.

"With the internet, access to archaeology has become even easier. Is this a good or a bad thing, do you think? What about archaeology on television? Have any of you seen any of the programs? I'll hopefully have a link copy of some of them for the next lesson."

Dream manages an absent smile for the students as they file in, and there is an assortment of heart-shaped candies on each desk.

"Hello. Happy day of St. Valentine."

Classics: Dream lectures on Sappho and reads some of her poetry aloud. "For classwork today, please find a Greek love -- or anti-love -- poem or myth and present it to your classmates."

Foreign Lit: Students must take a quiz on Russian literature, alas. But the light at the end of the tunnel is a handout of poems by Pablo Neruda to read in preparation for a class on Latin American literature on Thursday.

[OOC: Quiz is 10 questions about the bard movement, Gogol, and other Russian literature. Tell me what grade you got.]

She's absolutely exhausted and looks like she might be more than a little sore in the shoulder and arm areas. And she's not walking so hot either. But the important thing is Phoebe's grades are coming up, so just shut up.

201--2nd period
"It's Valentine's Day. A day to celebrate love and stuff. Not to be cynical, but speeches this week will focus on the commodification of emotion. How is pathos used against us in society? Pro or Con...write about the very marketable product that is love."

*** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***

301--3rd period
"Family. I'm well aware that blood ties often, for lack of a better term, suck. So...human's need relationships and connections. All we really have are our connections. Today, talk to me about created family. Who you choose or who chose you. It can be love based, friendship based, commonality based, whatever. How do you communicate differently with these individuals based upon a deeper, more intimate relationship? Go."

Josh was reading the newspaper and snickering when the political campaigning class came into the room. "Hunting accident? How dumb are you?" he asked the picture of the Vice President.

He finally shifted his attention to the class. "Today we talk some more about research. Your assignments about three things your candidate has done that makes him the best Senator or future Senator in the history of whenever are due Thursday, which I'm sure you all are working frantically on. And, um, Donna" he pointed at Jake, "How many days until the election?"

He looked back down at his notes. "Now we talk opposition research. This is looking into your opponents, but if you don't take this kind of intensive look at your own candidate you will be completely screwed later on. You have to know your own skeletons or else you'll spend all of your time playing defense to your opponents attacks and will shift off of your own message."

He passed out a handout. "Here's a list of some fairly general research topics and the attacks that could be generated from them. Find three that you think could work as attack possibilities for your own campaign, and three that your opponents might use against you. This assignment is due next Tuesday. One list per group."

He waved his hand. "You know the drill by now. Break into groups and bitch about your candidates."
[identity profile] prof-methos.livejournal.com
Methos greets the students that come in. "Welcome, all. So proud of you that you made it into class on Valentine's Day. Because, really, what's more romantic than an elderly celibate priest?

"I have your tests. The less said, the better. Actually, Ms. Mal Doran, please see me after 7th period. The rest of you got the grade you assigned yourself, or an A if you did not can pick up your tests after class.

"And so we begin our next section: Family Infighting, and Why We Care."

Grissom's students find a note on the Sociology lab door that they should meet in Danger Shop.

When they arrive, they find that a performance area has been set up for them, complete with room for an audience.

"Welcome, everyone! I'm glad you made it. I know that you have all been working hard on your presentations, so I wanted to give you the opportunity to share them with your fellow students. We'll begin in a few minutes, and I'll let the audience in. Happy Valentine's Day!"

Rita's classroom was very pink.

There were what appeared to be small, sparkling, soft pink insects floating near the ceiling, and pink and red streamers waving with an odd twinkling quality. There was also a small bowl of jelly beans on her desk.

"Turn in your obituaries," Rita said, looking decidedly out of patience. "Who did you write about? Why? How did you imagine they died?"

"Okay, gang, since I'm taking the sixth period Human Resource Management class to Dr. Grissom's presentation, I figured it wasn't fair to make you guys work.

And since we're learning about the court system anyway, I figured we'd watch a couple of episodes of Judge Judy instead."
