Dream is smiling slightly as he stands before the class, and he has put out platters of coffee and donuts.

He got them from Deb's. Really.

Classics students: We are going to wrap up our unit on Hebrew with a review of verbs in the language. Review this handout.

Asian Language Students: We're moving into a study of Cantonese Chinese. We will begin with this exercise in Cantonese greetings and short phrases.

We will be discussing these concepts on Friday as well, and both classes will have a quiz on Monday.

Geology

Hello, class. I think you know the routine by now--coffee and snacks are near the back, along with the roll sheet.

Today, we will be discussing geologic ramifications.

As primarily a geologic framework study the end result is to understand how this inner shelf and coastal system evolved over the middle to late Holocene and to identify the primary geologic forces active during that period of time. Revealing the distribution of sand bodies, their morphology, and sediment type was a primary goal and this information can be used to pick sites for sand renourishment of beaches. Also, the identification of hardbottom areas and extent of benthic communities is important information to choose areas for dumping dredge spoil as well as to identify habitat for fish and to locate recreational sites for fishing and diving. The distribution of sand and hardbottom areas can also be used by commercial fisherman to guide them in their activities. The seismic data allows groundwater geologists to better define the hydrostratigraphy that would lead to a better understanding of regional groundwater uses.

::Ash sits at his desk, playing with a Gameboy. Faint Russian-sounding music can be heard::

::The classroom has been laid out with different colored macaroni, beads, and multiple kinds of string. As usual, the instructions are written on the board::

"Today, you will make necklaces! You may wear them out."

This morning, Spider is leaning back with his feet on his desk, watching the cat chase madly back and forth across the floor and dart beneath the desks. The aroma of coffee fills the room and the end of the classroom set aside for the newspaper staff now has a velvet rope marking it off and large trays of various baked goods.

There is a large cappucino machine at one end of the counter, looking very sparkly and new.

Waiting until most of the class had straggled in, he announced, "Next week's homework assignment is going to be labor intensive and possibly team oriented - it is also going to be graphics intensive, so you might want to start making friends with our photojournalism students." Spider grinned maliciously. "If I were them, I'd start considering bribes at this point, but that's just me."

Pausing to light a cigarette, he continued, "We've been talking a lot about the use of words to influence your audience and how the truth can be distorted or hidden... so today I want to ask you to convince me of something in one hundred words or less. You can talk to me about the joys of coffee worship," with a dry look at the cappucino machine, "or how the one true way involves a diet of nothing but bananas. I want you to take a statement of less than a hundred words and pack it with as much passion and conviction as you can. Convince me that you're sincere, that you know what you're talking about and that I need to at least get off my lazy ass and pursue more information."

There is muted growling and a damp 'squishing' noise from beneath his desk, but Spider ignored it. "Photojournalism students, if there are any present today, you get a photograph and a single sentence to capture my complete emotional attention. Tear-jerker, gut-wrencher, righteous wrath... any emotional reaction will do."

Death and Dying

We will continue with our chapter on Homicide today.

Discussion: Excluding factors like a murderer's threat to society, what type of punishment do you believe is necessary for a homicide victim to receive justice? Or do the dead need justice at all?

Please read Chapter 204, entitled Loss of Control, from Clinical Methods for Monday.

Sociology of Deviance

Please take you seats. You will be quizzed today on your reading. [You can take the quiz cold, and then give me your (fabricated no doubt) IC results after you take a look at all the correct answers.]

Discussion will be based on Wednesday's intriguing research she shared in our last class.
Can a socially accepted group still be considered deviant? (Her example - Surburbanites) Please support your thoughts with examples.

For next class, please study this vocabulary. You'll find the format unique, but helpful with any luck.

"I will see many of you tomorrow at the Body Farm trip. Please remember to wear comfortable shoes and clothes that are easy to launder, and do not bring any food, drinks, etc. with you on the trip. I have a few gallons of lemon juice ready for students when we get back, we'll all have to hit the showers."

There is a sign on the door of the professor's classroom/kitchen.

Cookery Course
Still Open

Come in and try to cook something.
Help each other out as needed.

I'll be in attendance from time to time
with advice and first-aid.

Making a meal for your fellow students
is not only permitted, but encouraged.

Making a meal of your fellow students
is strictly forbidden.

A large plastic crate is in one corner of the kitchen. The professor is striding purposefully around, fishing out empty bottles from under tables and cupboards and hurling them with deadly accuracy into the crate.

He has a large saucepan on one of the stoves, containing something which looks (and smells) like Bolognaise sauce -- he stirs it occasionally.

Zero sits behind the collection's desk, back to the door, with her feet up on a table. She has headphones on, at a volume audible from outside the library, and is working on her laptop. Good luck getting her attention. Anyone entering the library would see that she is on CafePress.

On the table next to her is a large plate of chocolate chip cookies, with a sign: LIBRARY STAFF ONLY (and Hank).

Sarah sits at the desk down in front, off in a world of her own as she writes down random, almost illegible notes on a pad of paper. Anybody who might wish to risk their lives to peek at what she's writing would see a lot of half-baked theories about locker 327.

63 players and faculty are about to lose posting access to the communities. See here for details and how to get re-instated.

Warnings were publicly given on several occasions and this is the last time that I will be putting something like this on [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh. [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh_ooc is where the administrative warnings and notices go and you should have it friended and be keeping up with the rules so that you do not end up with a suspended account.

People have been suspended for one or more of the following:

Student has no fandom listed.
Student has no genuine e-mail listed.
Faculty has no genuine e-mail listed.
Faculty has no syllabus/class schedule or link to same listed.

I realize that one or two of these people may in fact be out-of-town and will repair the omission as soon as they get back. There are several accounts that exist solely as message-boards and those are not required to have additional e-mail... but everyone else should have an e-mail listed somewhere on their info page.

If you have been removed, please rectify the omission and then comment here to be reinstated. It is as easy as that.

Believe me, this is far more work on my part than I'd wish on anyone, both in denying access and re-granting it. I'm not enjoying it at all, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Ed: Posting access is what's being removed, not membership. Even I'm not that much of a masochist to want to have to go back and re-ad every. single. person. a second time.

Also ed: A lot of people are discovering that they accidentally had the 'hide e-mail' checked. It's an easy mistake to make and I can re-grant your posting access in a matter of seconds.

The dvds are gone now and there are just mats set up. "Alright guys I want to see some of the techniques you learned from the video." Beatrix says, watching them. She seems to be in a fairly decent mood, though looking a bit dishelved like she'd gotten into a fight before school or something.

1. Compare and contract civil liberties and civil rights.
2. Name three forms of governments and define them in (reasonable) detail.
3. What is the basis of common law?
4. What are 2 major systems of law used on this planet?

((Sorry this is late...the mun has a seminar class on Wednesday afternoons that takes a lot out of her.))

[The Doctor looks much better today, though his tie is untucked from his jacket. He is drinking Spider's coffee from a large mug.]

All right--I need your synopsis papers from Monday. You can turn them into me at my office hours Friday, but those will be late will be marked down.

Let's continue our discussion about timelines...today we're going to focus on the idea of historical events as influential focii (focal points) in creating parallel and alternate universes. What events in your history would you consider to be focal points? Or is every decision you make a focus?

For Monday, look at this article, which synopsises the reasoning for and against the concept of parallel universes. It takes a much more Earth-based scientific view of the subject, but since that's our general cultural mean here, I think you all can analyse its possibilities and flaws fairly well. In 100 words, of course.

Camulus is still suprisingy bouncy. Even the glass eyes of the moose head seems to be twinkling merrily at the students. "Welcome back, my students. If you would review the previous lessons, we can begin. Today's lesson will pick up with a brief history of the six waves of invasion of Ireland."

Willow arrives at the front door of the library, dressed as usual for an outing in the woods. This time, she's covered herself with DEET-intensive bug repellent so that she doesn't have to tuck her socks into the cuffs of her jeans - at least not until they hit the high grass. She's also got her usual bag of tricks and basket for specimens.

[[OOC Please note: Wildcrafting Club will take place each week in slow-time, so members please feel free to post and check back for replies over the course of the next couple of days. Let's keep the thread going through Saturday so we can find some interesting monstersspecimens this week.]]

Keith pins another notice on the noticeboard.

This one is written in fluorescent green.

'Places still available for both 'Human geography' and 'Physical geography'. Classes beginning next week.

Human geography - Tuesday 2-4PM
Physical geography - Friday 4-6PM

For course details see this notice.'

Keith pauses a moment before underlining 'still' twice and then wanders off in search of a classroom.
