deathsmajesty: Katie McGrath as Morgana from Merlin (Smirk - Sitting)
[personal profile] deathsmajesty
Rather than teaching in a classroom this session, everyone in class had been instructed to make their way to the creepy mansion in the woods Professor Vess's home, and to follow the path around the house to the back, where a long glass room ran almost the full length of the house. This was where their class would be held from now on; at least until specified otherwise. It was not difficult to find their professor, she was in a wide open area with a number of different seating options arranged in a circle: a couch, several loveseats, a scattering of arm chairs (probably? none of them were murderous?), cushions and blankets, even a few hanging chairs, and a papasan or two. Look, there were sixteen of you, everybody should be able to find somewhere comfortable to sit. There were trays and tray tables, so people could help themselves to the breakfast charcuterie boards, courtesy of Professor Scientia, that were sitting on a low table in the middle of the circle, along with a selection of juices, teas, and (of course) coffee.

"Now, a word about the scenarios. As I said, they are meant to put you in difficult and ugly situations. For some of you, these situations may hit uncomfortably close to home. If you find yourself emotionally compromised by a day's scenario, you're always welcome to leave the discussion, whether it's for a few minutes or for the remainder of the period. Lastly, my office hours are on Fridays, if you would like to discuss topics pertaining to class. Any questions or concerns thus far?"

"Hey, everybody!" Raiden greeted his class once they had assembled in the Home Ec classroom. "I'm Raiden, and this is..." he did a drumroll on the nearest work surface, "The Art of Breakfast! It's one of the three most important meals of the day, you know! And too many people just skip it, or run out the door with a slice of toast in their mouth when there's a whole spread just going wasted on the table...or maybe that's just on TV." Raiden hoped that was just on TV.

"And yes, I know it's afternoon already, but I don't control the schedule, take it up with the moose. Brunch is a great institution, too." Actually, that gave him an idea... "And breakfast for dinner is awesome! So breakfast is an anytime food, really. For our first class I've made a waffle bar," to shut one of you up, "so please help yourself to some waffles and moddable toppings before we get started.

"Now, what counts as breakfast differs from culture to culture. We're going to mostly focus on the breakfasts of the United States of America in this class, because...that's where we are. Since this is our first week, I'd like to hear from everybody. What's your name, where and when are you from, what's your favorite breakfast food and what do you usually have for breakfast?" He already knew at least one of you's answers, but humor him. "Oh! And any allergies or dietary restrictions you might have." He always almost forgot that one what with the whole 'immortal who eats everything' thing. "We'll start with you," he said, pointing at random at someone.

Class had been asked to meet in the Danger Shop; when they arrived there, they would find Hannibal leaning up against a table at the front of the room; the table had a number of dishes on it, each neatly covered with a lid or cloth napkin. He nodded and smiled at the students he knew, and made note of the ones he did not. The room was set up with a number of comfortable chairs, some at tables and some not, a couch or two, and even a beanbag. When they had all arrived and settled in, he began.

"Good afternoon. I am Dr. Lecter; this is The Philosophy of Food. I trust you are all in the correct place." He called up a syllabus on a screen at the front of the room. "I will send you each a copy of this. You may sit in a chair, or on the floor, or wander the room; whatever makes you comfortable, so long as you pay attention." You could tell a lot about people from how they chose to interact with their space.

"You will not need to take any notes, although you may do so if you choose. As you can see," he nodded at the syllabus, "there will be a final project, no exams or quizzes. I have only two requirements for our classes: one, you must participate." He indicated the dishes. "You may choose to eat or decline anything presented here. You may choose to eat none of it; while I might be disappointed, it will in no way affect your grade. However, you must have opinions and speak them, and possibly be prepared to defend them." He smiled.

"The second rule – there will be no judging. There will undoubtedly be things you do not think of as edible, or even that you may have a cultural or religious bias against. There may be practices in the raising or creation of food which you may find objectionable. I expect you to say just that, and to be prepared to explain why. There will be no use of the term 'disgusting', no 'ew's or 'gross'es." He frowned. "That will affect your grade if I hear it, and quite negatively."

He made sure they understood, and nodded. "Now, introductions I believe are traditional, but I would appreciate a little more as well. Please tell me your name, where you are from, and any allergies – food or otherwise – and dietary restrictions you may have. It is my goal to make you think about your food and to expand your horizons, not to kill you from anaphylaxis." Though he did have medicines just in case; he'd never lost a student unintentionally yet, and had no plans of starting now.

“Welcome!” Sam boomed out once his entire class was assembled outside Portalocity . “I am your instructor, Sam Eagle, and this summer i will be sharing with you the majesty of the American National Park System!”

“Today we will be going to visit the very first National Park. Yellowstone! Come along, through the portal. We have much to see!”

Once everyone had arrived at the park safely (all 4 of them including the Muppet), Sam gestured grandly.

“Welcome to the world's first National Park! Not only the first in America. We are leaders!”

Sure, Sam.

“Yellowstone was established on March 1, 1872. It is mostly located in Wyoming but a small portion is located in Montana and an even smaller one in Idaho! Three great states!”

Sure, Sam.

“There are many species of wildlife here. Do not interfere with them!”

If you got eaten by a bear you were on your own, folks.

“Our first stop today will be visiting Old Faithful! A geyser! It is due to erupt at approximately 2:04 PM today! And then we shall take a hike! But first and foremost we must introduce ourselves!"

Why were there so many ghost stories haunting the library today? Who could say, really.

But there were books about ghosts floating and books about ghosts singing and Belle found the whole thing rather odd.

There had been odder things.

Although the tiny black and white worm chasing one of the books was new.
