"Hey, everybody!" Raiden greeted his class once they had assembled in the Home Ec classroom. "I'm Raiden, and this is..." he did a drumroll on the nearest work surface, "The Art of Breakfast! It's one of the three most important meals of the day, you know! And too many people just skip it, or run out the door with a slice of toast in their mouth when there's a whole spread just going wasted on the table...or maybe that's just on TV." Raiden hoped that was just on TV.

"And yes, I know it's afternoon already, but I don't control the schedule, take it up with the moose. Brunch is a great institution, too." Actually, that gave him an idea... "And breakfast for dinner is awesome! So breakfast is an anytime food, really. For our first class I've made a waffle bar," to shut one of you up, "so please help yourself to some waffles and ~~moddable~~ toppings before we get started.

"Now, what counts as breakfast differs from culture to culture. We're going to mostly focus on the breakfasts of the United States of America in this class, because...that's where we are. Since this is our first week, I'd like to hear from everybody. What's your name, where and when are you from, what's your favorite breakfast food and what do you usually have for breakfast?" He already knew at least one of you's answers, but humor him. "Oh! And any allergies or dietary restrictions you might have." He always almost forgot that one what with the whole 'immortal who eats everything' thing. "We'll start with you," he said, pointing at random at someone.

Arden was torn between giving amused thumbs up at Gray for getting his waffles and giving Raiden sad eyes over the lack of breakfast cake.

See, what you had to do was be extremely annoying at him, Arden. And then hit him with the sad puppy eyes. Worked every time!

You know how this works.

"I'm Arden Finch, from North Carolina and relatively now-ish," she said when it was her turn. "I cannot eat poultry or birds of any kind, though eggs are fine, are the scent of marshmallows makes me sick. My favorite kind of breakfast food is breakfast cake--" JUST SAYING NOT SAYING, RAIDEN "--and usually I eat something easy like a bowl of oatmeal or some yogurt and granola for breakfast. Unless I have time and reason to go all out and then it's a proper Southern breakfast.

Raiden still found it just so unspeakably sad that Arden couldn't eat fried chicken or s'mores. It was one of the great tragedies of the age, truly.

"Hey, Arden!" Raiden said. "Is there anything you'd like us to cover in this class in particular? Besides breakfast cake. That's...they're still fighting about that." He might look slightly shell-shocked about it. He hadn't realized anyone besides him cared that strongly about cake. (Team "Raiden can tell people how to make the cake if he wants to, it's his recipe": Alastair, Gray, and Bellamy. Team "But it's OUR cake!": Castor, Daman, and Galen.)

"I'm Gray," Gray said, "and I'm from California in the now, but you know this. My favorite breakfast food is waffles," but everyone knew this, "and I mostly only eat breakfast if someone makes it for me?" Gray. Why were you trying to make your brother sad. "And you already know all the stuff I don't like, so." Convenient!

"Hey, Smalls," Raiden said. "Are you planning to actually cook stuff, or make me do it for you?"

He already knew the answer to that, too.

"I'm Steve McGarrett," Steve began, "and I'm from Honolulu, Hawai'i, and also generally now-ish." Thank you, Arden, for that phrasing. "My favorite breakfast is chocolate chip pancakes, but that's not an every day food. I normally go for a smoothie after my morning workout--" he was that guy, sorry, everyone, "--and then coffee. I don't have any food allergies, but I'm not a big processed food guy."

"A smoothie?" Raiden asked. He didn't consider those food, really. They were more like a beverage but with extra steps. "Well, if it works for you and you're getting your protein in..."

"Kitty Pryde. Barton." She did not care what last name anyone used. "I'm from a version of New York, I love a good omelet, and I really need to branch out from pancakes and sugary cereals."

It was Clint and Lexi's fault.

"There's nothing wrong with cereal sometimes, but there are so many other great breakfasts out there!" Raiden said encouragingly. "We'll see what we can do over the next few weeks, yeah?"

There was an excessive amount of syrup on Stark's waffles. Also whipped cream. And some fruit. And a few chocolate chips. Maybe he was eating his feelings a bit.

"I'm Stark, from space, a region we call the Uncharted Territories, and around now? I think?" Time was weird, ok. "I can eat anything, as far as I know, anything meant to be food anyway. And my favorite breakfast food...I do like waffles. But, eggs and bacon maybe. With something sweet. I like breakfast sandwiches often when I don't want to cook for myself."

They tasted better when someone else made them. All breakfast did.

Honestly, Stark's waffles didn't look that different from Gray's, except Gray's had way more chocolate chips. And Raiden didn't know about that last part. If Stark had ever eaten one of Bellamy's attempts at breakfast he'd be changing his tune real quick.

"Hey, Stark!" Raiden greeted him. "What's breakfast like out in space, man?"

"Some places there wasn't any," Stark said. "And sometimes it was food cubes."

Food cubes were just sad, Raiden.

"And there was no chocolate anywhere. And no bacon."

He's here!

To Gray's great dismay, not every week will be waffles.
