wrongkindofsith: (At least one of us has a clue)

Today the danger shop was remarkably pink colored. Because sometimes it just did what it did.

"So we've got spring break coming," Jane said. "And we thought it'd be nice to give a little class on what to do there."

Pro-tip: do not do as Cara did and wear a full-body leather cat-suit to the beach. "Because apparently our job is beach now."

"Sunscreen is a big thing so you don't spend the trip burned and unhappy," Jane said. "...or you could cover up everything."

Like Cara.

"It's also a good idea to stay hydrated," Cara added. "With water."

"We'll use today as practice," Jane suggested. Practice for vacation. Right.

"Because practice is important." Yep.

"So, I don't know about you guys," said Summer, from the front of the classroom sim in the danger shop that was looking out over the pink beach from yesterday's relaxation class, because, um, hi? Why wouldn't she totally just borrow that? "But with the school trip next week, and it being Friday and all, my brain is already pretty much on island time, and, yes, don't worry, I absolutely want to punch myself in the face for just now using the phrase 'island time' in any real and serious capacity.

"So let's talk about theory today," she continued with a shrug and a wistful glance out the window, "and if that's not vibing with us today, then we'll just call it early and you guys can go get your vacations started early, unless you're in one of the other classes today, anyway. Specifically, I was thinking we can touch on the idea of, like, choice and free will or whatever, particularly in the context of how our decisions might influence other dimensions.

"For example," she gestured vaguely, "me deciding to do this topic for this class today is what becomes the reality in this dimension, but there are infinite other dimensions where I decided to teach something else today, like dopplegangers or what to do when you cross dimensions or I canceled class or I just brought in jello to torture you all with, or I turned into a robot or there's a substitute teacher instead. And the real question here is: were all those other dimensions already existing and going along their own path, or, by making a decision and rejecting those others, did I create new dimensions that followed the pathway of those ideas that I rejected? Essentially, then: do multiple dimensions just exist or do we actually create them, spawning more and more ad infinitum whenever we make a choice or a decision.

"This does tie in to the Many World Interpretation we've brought up in this class before, and essentially then creates just, like, the messiest branching tree of possibilities. And then I always have to wonder, especially since I deal with a lot of crossing those branches back in my home dimension....if the branches can branch out from each other, do they were grow back? Like, do two different decisions somehow lead to the same event anyway and, like, merge? Do dimensions ever just get straight up destroyed, like pruning the branch? What then? Does it ever start back up again? Like, these are all clearly theoretical, most of this quantum crap is, but that is the class, so let's, like, talk about it, or whatever. Or not. That's kind of all I've got for everyone today, and, quite frankly, I'd rather be trying on cute new swimsuits for next week right now than thinking about any of this, but it's my job to at least try."

There was a pause, and then she sighed.

"Ugh, there's a ton of Summers out there right now trying on cute swimsuits instead of talking about this, fuck. But....were those Summers always out there trying on cute swimsuits? Or are they only doing it because I made a decision? Now that's the question."

"All right, guys," Raiden told his students, "today we're gonna talk about another of the many best ways to make and eat potatoes: hash browns." If a heavenly choir didn't start singing, they should have. "Now, as far as I know, Waffle House isn't in town today," sad, "so we're gonna have to make our own, but that's okay! It's easy!

"This is also a good time to talk about the differences between different kinds of potatoes. You can make hash browns out of starchy potatoes, like russets, or waxy potatoes, like Yukon Golds. They're both delicious. But the waxier potatoes will stick together a little bit better, so if you're making patties instead of just, like...loose hash browns, you might want to use those. That's also why, after we shred our potatoes, you'll want to rinse them under cold water, to get off that excess starch." Raiden proceeded to talk them through a basic hash brown recipe as he demonstrated how to do it, and when he was done he told them, "I also have recipes for a homemade patty, you know, like the ones you get at Moobyland or wherever, just better, and you can even make hash browns in a waffle iron if your stovetop is occupied or your little brother is obsessed with waffles." You know. Hypothetically. "How you serve your hash browns is up to you. As a side with eggs and bacon, with all sorts of toppings like at Waffle House...just some ketchup and straight into your face. They're all good options!"

“Welcome back,” Stark said once everyone who was going to show up had done so. He wasn’t going to bring up last week if you weren’t.

“Next week, in a few days really, we’ll be going on one of the school trips. Somewhere warm. So in honor of that we’ll be making tropical cupcakes this week.”

He waved his hand at the variety of tropical fruits (fresh, canned, and dried) and the different types of coconut (fresh, flaked, sweetened, milk, and cream) set out to be used.

“I have mango and pineapple and coconut and passion fruit and…a lot of other things as well. And a few recipes to look at for reference if you want or need that. So, have fun, make something that reminds you of a tropical island, and then we can eat."
