Relaxing For Dummies [Thursday, Second Period]

Today the danger shop was remarkably pink colored. Because sometimes it just did what it did.

"So we've got spring break coming," Jane said. "And we thought it'd be nice to give a little class on what to do there."

Pro-tip: do not do as Cara did and wear a full-body leather cat-suit to the beach. "Because apparently our job is beach now."

"Sunscreen is a big thing so you don't spend the trip burned and unhappy," Jane said. "...or you could cover up everything."

Like Cara.

"It's also a good idea to stay hydrated," Cara added. "With water."

"We'll use today as practice," Jane suggested. Practice for vacation. Right.

"Because practice is important." Yep.

It's probably best to take Cara's advice with a grain of salt.

Practice beach, whatever that means to you.

Coming from one danger shop beach to the next, Eleanor was hoping she could just find another surfboard on this one. Not to actually surf, that seemed against the conceit of this class, but just to sort of paddle herself out into the water a little and then just lay back, close her eyes, and enjoy the way the waves made the board between them bob a little bit.

With a lot of just happy little sighs.

Kamala on the other hand was on the beach itself, lying down and keeping an eye on Eleanor while also just enjoying the sand under her feet.

There were also lots of happy sighs coming from her as well.

Eventually, though, Eleanor did come back to shore, flipping over on her belly on the board and paddling with her arms, because, eventually, the thought of drying off on the beach next to Kamala started sounding even better than just staying in the water the whole time.

When she reached her, she leaned over to kiss her, a very different sort of blush now rising up to warm her face, and when she settled in beside her, it was with another one of those contented sighs. She looked out over the ocean for a moment before looking over to Kamala with a grin.

"Fair warning," she said. "I learned how to surf this morning, and I'm afraid the damage done will be irrevocable."

Kamala no longer had a reason to be looking elsewhere on the beach and just laughed. "I'm never getting you out of the water again, am I?" she teased. "I'm going to have to come out into the ocean to visit my girlfriend. Hey, as long as the location is tropical, I'm not complaining."

Eleanor thought about the new house up in cold, cold, cold and isolated coastal Maine, and decided she didn't need to break that news to Kamala at that exact moment. Instead, she just leaned in, to brush her shoulder against hers, and maybe linger there for a bit.

"I promise to come up to dry land every once in a while," she said. "Mr. Amicitia said he could give me a few extra lessons next week when we're all down in Barbados. I'm actually pretty excited for it."

"Boo. Homework on vacation," Kamala joked, and feeling El brush up against her, used that as an excuse to slip one arm around her. "But I mean it is surfing so I guess it's not really homework. If you do, I'd love to watch you surf. I feel like that's prime support from a girlfriend."

"I hate to break the news to you like this, Kam," said Eleanor, leaning into that arm around her and dropping her voice to a secretive whisper, then going to find her hand to hold, "but your girlfriend is a total dork who loves homework. But that could be nice...maybe after one more lesson. If earlier was any indication, I'll probably need one more before I can do it without just dying of embarrassment."

"I would like to think that at this point in our relationship you know I hold no judgement over your surfing abilities," Kamala teased, and giving Eleanor's hand a squeeze. "But sure, I'll hold off for another lesson if it saves you from embarrassing yourself in front of your super dorky and understanding girlfriend."
