"Today you will be participating in 'an exercise in physicality, music, and grace'," Cara read off her notes.

That didn't explain the skateboards, Cara. Or the basket-ball court the class was currently standing on. You just had to learn to roll with the punches, class!

"With a new version of basketball," Jane added. "Kind of?"

Just to music. And on skateboards. Enjoy the concussions, everyone.

"Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, we're still on dating," Navaan complained when the class had gathered. There was a projector and a screen pulled down at the front of the room. "Apparently there have been 'complaints,' which means one of you is a narc." She glared around the room, lingering on a few of you in particular.

...The squirrel in the window shrunk down and hoped that she wouldn't notice him.

"Anyway, this had better be the last stupid week of this," she continued. "I guess you all have to watch some dumb movie about dating, so you know how not to act like an asshole or whatever. I've watched it, it doesn't even get into who should provide the lube or the importance of reciprocity. Whatever. I'm taking a nap while you saps watch this."

And then she started the projector so the class could watch the dating woes of 'Woody.'

There was something new in the danger shop training area today! In addition to the usual racks of big sharp sticks, there were also racks of ridiculous shields to match the ridiculous swords now! And Gladio grinned at everyone, giving them a nod and hoping they were already knowing to start stretching and warming up while he talked, because they were, of course, getting right into it.

"Today," he said, "after we go through our review and practice of the stuff we've learned so far, we're adding a new element to the fighting today and working a little bit with shields. We've been focusing a lot on the big two-handed swords so far, and, while I know I still prefer a greatsword or broadsword even with a shield, I know I'm an exception for being able to handle that. So I've brought in some smaller one handed swords, too, but honestly? I'd really like to focus on just the shields today, and next week we'll work on integrating both of them, especially for the beginners in the class.

"So what we're going to do is simple. I'm going to teach a few shield techniques, and you'll pair up and take turns with one on the offensive with the sword and the other on the defensive with the shield, and then you'll switch, to help get a feel for it. If you've already got experience with shields, then consider it another good brush up on the basics. So let's head into warm-up and review, and then we'll get into some shield work."

Beaker was very excited about this trip, everyone! Sam had told him they were going to a Dynamite Museum and the island had even moved them closer to it! Surely this must be the greatest piece of culture anywhere!

"Meep meep meep meep meep meep meep meep meep! Meep!"

“That’s correct, Beaker!” Sam said, sounding pleased. “We will be visiting the very cultural and appropriate Dynamite Museum here in Amarillo, Texas!”

He cleared his throat, produced a notecard from somewhere on his felt person, and began to read from it. “The Dynamite Museum is an art installation that is made up of thousands of painted-over road signs scattered across Amarillo. There was no rhyme or reason to the messages on the signs; the people behind the project would come up with ideas, or vote on suggestions sent in, and then install their favorites all over town. At one point, it was the largest urban art project in the world. You can find the largest concentration of the signs in the Mariposa Eco-village, but the signs can be found throughout Amarillo.”

Sorry not sorry, Beaker.

"Meep meep mee?"

You cannot blow up the signs, Beaker.

“It is called the Dynamite Museum but that does not mean it is meant to explode!” Even though Sam would agree, privately, that it was an odd name for an art installation that wasn’t a museum at all and wasn’t explosive in the slightest. But he wouldn’t admit it to Beaker.

Beaker held up two lit sticks of dynamite because of course he had two lit sticks of dynamite. "Mee?"

“Beaker, no! You might explode the culture! Students, flee!"

Aphra and Isabela had planned a really great class. It was deep, it was insightful. It asked the hard-hitting questions to find the cathartic answers.

And then they got distracted by groups of largely teenage girls throwing hoops and balls and ribbons at each other but art and suddenly they needed to become instant experts on a sport they'd just discovered existed.

At least there was still plenty of booze for anyone who did turn up to class?

[Got distracted watching my tiny baby cousin (only a few months other than the game) competing. So yeah. No OCD.]
