There was something new in the danger shop training area today! In addition to the usual racks of big sharp sticks, there were also racks of ridiculous shields to match the ridiculous swords now! And Gladio grinned at everyone, giving them a nod and hoping they were already knowing to start stretching and warming up while he talked, because they were, of course, getting right into it.

"Today," he said, "after we go through our review and practice of the stuff we've learned so far, we're adding a new element to the fighting today and working a little bit with shields. We've been focusing a lot on the big two-handed swords so far, and, while I know I still prefer a greatsword or broadsword even with a shield, I know I'm an exception for being able to handle that. So I've brought in some smaller one handed swords, too, but honestly? I'd really like to focus on just the shields today, and next week we'll work on integrating both of them, especially for the beginners in the class.

"So what we're going to do is simple. I'm going to teach a few shield techniques, and you'll pair up and take turns with one on the offensive with the sword and the other on the defensive with the shield, and then you'll switch, to help get a feel for it. If you've already got experience with shields, then consider it another good brush up on the basics. So let's head into warm-up and review, and then we'll get into some shield work."

By now, you all know how important it is to get a good warm up before jumping into all of this! And once everyone's feeling spry and ready (as they're likely to be), there will be some review on basic stances again as well as the technique of the Meyers Square, just to get everyone really in the headspace for fighting and to really reaffirm the lessons learned in the previous weeks. Practice makes precision, people!

Oh no. Oh no no no. Those shields were going to work different muscles than the usual ones.

"He just doesn't want me to be able to use my hands at the party tonight," she grumbled while she stretched.

And now...onto shields! Gladio will give a breakdown on types of shields and how to use them, with plenty of examples of stances, moves, and hopefully everything you'll need to know about using a shield in a defensive capacity, and if not? Well, that's what questions were for, right?

And now...it's your turn! Find someone to work with and take turns defending yourself with a shield and attacking someone with a shield. A good way to learn a new style of fighting as well as getting your fighting in, too!

Arden gingerly held a shield and looked around to see if anybody felt like hitting her with it.

They didn't call him Shield of the King for nothing!
