The class was back in the classroom again, which meant less dealing with harmful chemicals that directly seemed to relate to the instructor's name! And when everyone arrived and settled, surely they'd notice the desk in the front was covered in a collection of various boxy cameras.

"Hey, guys," Prompto said, grinning his greeting as he leaned on the desk. "Just like William Henry Fox Talbot built off of Louis Daguerre's process of developing images to stay, I thought maybe we'd end up building off of processing daguerreotypes into the collodion process of developing pictures, but that would lead us directly into processing film, which made me think that, hey, if we're going to be doing that, then we should have something to process first! So we're skipping ahead a little bit, and we're going to talk about the Kodak camera, which, in this world, is what revolutionized photography and started to make it recognizable as what it is today. Back home, the brand for that was LOKTON, which is the brand my trusty camera," he gave the camera at his hip a loving little pat, "is and has been since I started photography.

"So today, what we're going to do is, I'm going to actually go over how to use one of these bad boys, and sort of go over all the different parts and how they work and why they work, and teach you how to load the film and all that good stuff, and then I'm loaning these to you guys until next class, and then we're going to talk a little bit about how the process of...well, processing film works with the film you used in your OG Kodaks and Brownies! Pretty simple, right? So, to get us started, let's actually talk about our eyes and how they work, and you'll see that a camera is meant to work a lot like that...."

And, with that, Prompto moved around the desk to the backboard so that he could start writing and drawing things out to help him through the lecture.

Walking into the classroom that week, the students should be able to quickly discern what the lesson would be about just by looking at how it was set up, and, if not, then perhaps you may be needing this class far more than Ignis believed he could help you with.

Because the desks were arranged in a way that they were paired up with a chess board on each one. He did wait a moment, right after the bell went off, for everyone to decide if they were just going to claim a spot at one of the table straight away, or just wait a moment before relegating them to the fate of probably having to combat whoever ended up across from them, and then he began.

"Anyone even slightly familiar with the game of chess," he stated, "should know that it is, indeed, an incredibly logical follow-up to a discussion about order of battle. It is, after all, an abstract game almost entirely build to strategy and planning and moving units with particular roles and specifications across a field with one ultimate goal: to capture the king. And while chess seems to have a remarkably impressive influence across the multiverse, we will take a moment to go over how to play the game and discuss the various pieces and perhaps a few common tactics to employ, which will hopefully serve as a refresher for those of you already familiar with the game, and a point of inspiration and instruction for those who may be learning of it for the first time or have only a passing exposure to the game. Then, of course, you will find yourself a worthy opponent or two, time permitting, and face off.

"I'd like," he added, "for you all to pay particular attention to the ways in which your opponent is playing, as well as being mindful of what strategies you employ yourself. There is a good chance it will be a topic of heavy discussion next week, but today? It's all just about the game."

His smile suggested, of course, that nothing was ever all about just the game, and it lingered, for just a moment, before he began to divulge the lesson.

So, there was a dragon jammed into the tavern simulation and also a dragon mini figure on the table, looming over the class' characters. And at least one teacher looked concerned about this fact.

"I'm not sure this is the right first fight," Jane muttered, looking over at the dragon. And then the other dragon. Look, scaling encounters could be tough for baby DMs.

"They'll be fine," Cara said. "It's only one dragon. How hard could it be?"

Besides, the tavern dragon looked more awkward and uncomfortable than anything. Maybe it had social anxiety?

"So, today we're going to be trying our hand at combat in this game," Jane said, taking Cara at her word. Which was clearly a fatal flaw. "And see how you work as a team. Party! That's the term for it, right?"

TPK did roll off the tongue better than TTK.

"I'm sure you'll perform adequately."

"Ghosts," Liliana said, exactly at nine am after the bell or whatever rang for class. "Ghosts, or, more properly, spirits, are the most common form of undead. As I mentioned last class, there are two major classifications of spirits: an item or a concept that has been imbued with enough mana - usually via some form of worship - and, as such, has gained some form of sentience; and, as is relevant to our class, an entity that is composed of energy related to a deceased sentient creature. Most often, a spirit forms from a dead person, but it is uncommon but not unexpected to run into the spirits of animals. Interestingly enough, the vast majority of the animal spirits that one runs into come from animals who had significant bonds with people. Of those animal spirits that do not have those bonds with sapient creatures, most of those come from creatures with either pack- or herd ties. Which mean that, for the the overwhelming majority of animal spirits, they come from creatures with a sense of we. Those vanishing few solitary animal spirits were all from creatures that were incredibly old and venerable. Their lingering after death seemed more due to inertia than anything else; their sense of self had grown strong enough to remain, even after their physical body had given up."

Who ya gonna call? )

"So think of your favorite ghost story, or at least one you know very well. What happens in it? What is it that creates the hole large enough that they remain?"

"That's really quite lovely," Belle told the gremlin currently filling the library with a haunting melody.

The gremlin bowed from the table they were standing on and then began a new tune.

"I'd no idea you knew how to play the ocarina," Belle continued. "I'm quite enjoying it."

And she was. The music made a very pleasant accompaniment to her day as she went about her usual library tasks.
